Complete with its own blend of _pomodoro_ technic. As every ~~old-school blogger~~ Steemian probably knows: tabs are made to be opened as if your computer had no limitation in amount of RAM and as if Chrome weren’t a memory hog at all. Having less than 35 open at any given time is supposed to make you feel bad, feel like a failure because you are a multi-tasking monster and will absolutely read all those tabs as soon as you can. Or something like that. <center></center> On my lap, and sometimes also on a desk, a very powerful 15” MacBook Pro used to ~~fry my eggs~~ keep my legs nicely warm, spinning the fans’ blades under load most often caused by both iTunes and Google Chrome. Because Safari has no favicon. And because I’m a serial recidivist multitasker. I have [NADD](http://randsinrepose.com/archives/nadd/). I’ve been here before. This isn’t the first attempt. I’ve had iPads ever since the original model. When the original iPad was announced I was immediately sold. It was obvious to me that it would be the next computer I would give my grandparents. For Internet professionals, content creators like me, I called it the [perfect **focus** device]: > The main advantage of using an iPad as a second screen instead of a monitor is that the iPad brings simplicity. We all know that as soon as you plug in a second monitor this one will be clouded with multiple windows: chat, email, media player. Move it all to the second screen but let’s keep the noise and distractions coming! > With no multi-tasking available (other than Push notifications) the iPad will help you focus on doing just your research, reading and even writing. Less is more. KISS https://youtu.be/sQB2NjhJHvY I had one of those first generation iPads.Without multitasking. With the _round_ back, the back and thus inability for the device to stay flat led to my iPads’ device names ever since: _theCoaster_. The only iPad I didn’t see the use for, because I’m not an artist or medic, was the iPad Pro. The first model, the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro with the big 13” screen, AKA as the iPad Pro. But last year I got myself the iPad Pro. The smaller one. Complete with Apple Pencil even. I’m not sure why exactly. Maybe I just wanted to treat myself on something. Maybe I couldn’t stomach the thought of that ~~metrosexual~~ ultra light small screen iPad Mini anymore. I don’t know. I don’t really care either. But I got myself a 4G 128GB memory iPad Pro. With True Tone screen and 10-bit color. It rocks. For some days now I’ve managed to use the iPAd Pro as my main device. I was wiser this time and started the new attempt on a Friday afternoon. With the weekend ahead when usually I am less connected, or at least don’t really open the laptop. Yet, it’s been a struggle. Even though from previous attempts I knew it would be. While I remain convinced that it is the perfect device for most users, especially in this era of Millennials, I’m not convinced it will become my main device. Not yet. <center><br><em>While trying my hand at food photography at a local eatery</em></center> So far I have not had any desire to end the experiment, or maybe it truly is an attempt this time. Maybe that’s because I did finally get a keyboard for it. Which has made a big a difference but more about that and the whole experience in some days. It’s going to continue to be a struggle, that’s sure, but there is hope that with quite [a decent amount of investment](https://www.macstories.net/tag/ipad-diaries/), both in time to change workflow and set up new forms of automation as well as financially in apps, the iPad Pro may become my 95% main device. But it feels the road until that point will be one with many bumps on.

I tend to use my Laptop for most of my Social Network stuff, however, I do use my mobile now and again for Twitter, FB, Mastodon and Google Plus. For me, it's down to the length of the item I want to write, a few lines and I'll use my phone but on the whole, I'll wait until I'm in front of a bigger screen and a hardware keyboard. I must be 'old school' too as I can't get on with doing lots of things on my mobile mainly because the screen is too small even if it is the S8 Plus. I have just invested a few Groats and purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 with the keyboard cover and I spoke with you on it last night from the comfort on my bed. I admire people who manage to work from only their phone. It’s probably generational, and also because of background. Earlier today I showed a girl a picture of my old desk. It had three computers, 4 screens and all operated by only one keyboard and mouse. Mobile devices always played a big role for me. I can remember writing 1,400 words articles on the iPhone 3G but they were because I was on the road and only had the phone on me. Before that I’ve had multiple iPaqs and even a Sony Clie. Let’s see what happens. I’m intrigued by the possible outcome, or failure, myself. Thanks for your comment, @jasonrussell.

Do you actually use the pencil for writing stuff, or do you just use a keyboard? I have a Samsung tablet with S-Pen and I find that it's more comfortable to just write all my notes as drawings, but only if I don't plan to use them off the tablet (other than exporting to pdf). Generally I use a keyboard if I'm going to write, say markdown code.

I didn't really find use in the Pencil. I think the size of the iPad Pro (here we go again) didn't fit my usual note taking sizes. Since I'm not an artist either, the Pencil didn't last long. It was amazing a device though. Let's classify that one under 1stGen Buyers Remorse. Always such a joy to be an early adopter of Apple newbies. :D When I had the Samsung Note I made much more use of the stylus but that also because it had specific system level integrations.

There are always trade-offs to balance, right?! I happen to really like a keyboard and mouse. I like to mess around with data. I like to code. I mostly use a keyboard, but every day there are stretches where I'm working on something that is sooo much easier with a mouse (like a spreadsheet or trading chart). Then I start wondering, if I have the tablet + mouse + keyboard -- I'm basically carrying around a laptop (minus the ability to run a full OS, which is also useful). So the tablet never worked for me all that well. For my mom, though -- it's a perfect fit.

Those trade-offs are what it will eventually be all about. Can I replace all Alfred (app) functionality I use tons of times each day. At least sufficiently not to pine after Alfred anymore. Will improved focus balance out what I miss. I’ve been sat on a post for Utopian since a while but it requires a mock-up, better even some quick prototyping. Am I ready to pay for an HTML editor? Are any good? How many will I need to try. How long before I am sick of looking for the new workflow. It’s going to be an interesting ride, that’s for sure. Thanks for your comment, @seanlloyd

The more I think about this, the more I think there is not perfect all-in-one solution ... possibly ever. It's kinda like backpacks -- what kind I like totally depends on what I'm doing. A multi-day trip is one backpack. A single day, high-mileage hike another backpack. Then a backpack for running. Then a backpack for work (to carry electronics...). In the end, I just end up with a bunch of man purses, lol.
