<b>Even when on a "vacation" I need to be doing something and at the in laws I can always find projects. A couple years ago I install electronic deadbolts in their doors for them and one of them, a side door, stopped working. It would drain the batteries in no time then it broke and the keypad would do nothing. I took it all apart and after factory resets, inspecting the circuit boards and wiring It seems that the keypad is the problem, only the 1 and 7 work. I put it all back in the door until I can get to town to get a new one.

The chipper took a little while to devise teh correct means of cushioning the chute so that it will ride the best. Rigid foam is my friend and has proven to be the key for cushion. I started by cutting pieces to fit around and over the motor and exhaust.

I used a longer kitchen knife to cut the foam which worked perfectly as I could cut long angles to fit some of the openings. I cut out holes in 2 pieces to fit over the stub of the tail pipe. My goal is to keep paint from getting scratched off in transit. This will be a super accomplishment if I am able to.

At first I was packing foam around the battery to keep it solid for the trip but then I just figured it best to remove the battery and box all together and just put it in the car. It will be safer that way.

Initially I had the chute on upside down from this but it stuck way to far forward and would likely have hit the back of the car if we went over a big bump or through a big dip. I am pretty stoked with how solid the chute sits over the engine. On the bottom by the gas tank I have a big sheet of foam across the front of the motor mounts.  

The output snorkel is off and I am figuring the best place to put it is atop the gas tank and then along the side. I've got some nice sheets of rigid foam to cut out to fit it that will sit on the gas tank and then I just need a few blocks for the rear open area where the battery goes.

This is looking down the chute at the engine. The foam is wedged in place pretty nicely and the chute isn't touching metal anywhere, only foam. While @stryeyz was in town I had her get me some ratchet straps which I will use to lock the chute down tight.

In the evening we watched the nieces' volleyball games online since no spectators were allowed. Absolute bullshit that no one was allowed at the last home game of the season. We were able to watch the oldest niece who is a senior win the final point with a serve in the varsity game. They were tied 2 games to 2 and the final one to 15 pts was neck and neck until she aced the serve for the win. 

It's snowing today and is blustery like the normal for the northern tier. The doppler shows it will not last too long, the winds are blowing hard enough it will likely be gone a bit after noon.  There is another band coming across eastern Montana that will hit about 11am. The forecast is for up to 3 inches but I doubt that much will fall.

I have a task to change out the seat in the Massey Ferguson tractor. The new one has been in the garage for a couple years and Sam just hasn't gotten around to putting it in. We also are going to take the mower deck off his Deere yard tractor to get it ready to move snow this winter.

Last night I crossed the 29,000 word mark for my story and it feels good to be getting some depth under me, (which is NOT how I like water...) and the scenes keep falling together for me. I had a key point just happen along as I was writing a scene and it kind of surprised me. That is what I love when writing fiction, the surprises that come up.
