I've always, at least during the digital era, been a little skeptical of the desire to have more resolution.

Let's be frank, most photo and video content are being viewed on computers or mobile devices nowadays. Even 12 megapixels is overkill about 99% of the time.

At the same time, I'm kinda-sorta guilty. I've shot Ektachrome on 35mm and projected it on a screen that's more than six feet wide. There was no grain. The image was tack sharp. It looked better than any damn digital image I've taken.

Still, I burned through five rolls of medium format Ektachrome and only one 35mm during my last shoot.

In terms of digital resolution from the scans, the medium format is actual lower resolution. When I make scans at home, the medium format will have a ton more resolution; but, I clearly don't need it. 

When I'm shooting medium format, I'm almost shooting film that's the same size of an IMAX movie. Most of my images will just be seen on Flickr and Instagram.

I guess the thing is that, resolution seldom crosses my mind anymore. Almost all of the cameras that we have will hold up to 99.9% of viewing experiences. All film photography will hold up.

Resolution is, and has been for a while, a dick wagging contest.

I shoot so much medium format because I'm comfortable with the camera and I like the images that I'm getting from it. It hasn't been about the resolution ever since I actually learned how to make attractive images.
