 I'm gonna just say it, I think that "neologism" is the most important word in the English language. It's always been a point of contention between people who think that we should use language however we want and people like me who think that we should generally follow the rules. The thing is that the word "neologism" by its very existence promotes liberalism in the English language. Namely, we should embrace new words. The name "Jessica" didn't exist until Shakespeare invented it in The Merchant of Venice. At the same time, though, "neologism" is a construction of the rules. It's a word that not all that many people know; but, thirty seconds of looking up it's definition and origins should make an abundant amount of sense. The beauty of the English language, in a nutshell, is that we have a word to describe new words.
