 ------------- I woke up just after dawn and I went to the window, as I do every morning, to take a look at the park and the old castle. Two young fellows were sitting on a bench, drinking the last beer of the night. I reminisced the years that this was a normality in my life too. Staying up all night and drinking till the dawn before I finally hit the bed. It felt right back then, when I was like that, as it also feels right nowadays, that I prefer to respect my body and follow a more natural sleeping pattern. But what about exceptions? Carnival is definitely a good excuse to get out of the ordinary and get a little crazy! After all that's the whole purpose of it :)     ------------ And Nafplio has not one but two carnivals. A small one at Saturday night and the main one, on Sunday afternoon! As you can imagine this weekend was all about festivities! As if the presence of people in the carnival would be questioned, if they haven't any video to prove it. I was watching many of them as they were filming instead of living the moment. They never took their eyes from the screen. They were right in front of the parade and they only saw it, through the tiny screen of their phone. I wonder how many of them, have even realised it.     ----------- As for myself, I may haven't stayed up all night, drinking and dancing till the morning but it was a fun weekend, with many friends around and I even took a few photos for you :)  ----- <center><sub>The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 850D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens attached. I remember in high school we had a philosophy class where the question was why people are constantly taking photos/videos of everything in important moments instead of living in the moment. What I'm about to say is entirely my own. But to put it very simply, I ended up saying that in our society, image is very important. Taking photos and videos of yourself at the festival is a way of showing off and showing others that you're having an extraordinary time. I can't remember what I was quoting, but it doesn't date back to the advent of the telephone. The importance attached to image and the way we present ourselves to others was already a central preoccupation in ancient times. The telephone is just a new way of realizing and emphasizing this.

I agree with you. But then again, it depends on schools of thought. In stoicism - of which, without knowing it, you may be a member just like me, at a high percentage rate - we advocate authenticity and virtuous living, independent of the gaze of others. From this perspective, one's image is not a priority, since what counts is living in accordance with one's own values. Confucianism, on the other hand, emphasizes social harmony and respect for others. As a result, giving a good image is seen as a duty to society. I don't know if everything can be reduced to philosphy. But I do think it's an excellent way of gaining a better understanding of the world around us, and a better grasp of how people behave.
