Politics has almost always been in civilization, much more than any other human fact. Humanity has always needed a leader and that person needs to be a natural born leader, to guide their nation, ethnicity or group to achieve the goals they set as a society. Many say that politics is corrupt, I do not believe that, in itself, it is a negative thing. In fact, human beings are corrupt, almost by nature, as we are almost always tempted to do the wrong thing.
Many are the political systems that have been implemented throughout history and I still believe that we are in a time of trial and error. This is because we look for a political system that is perfect and the only thing we do is to increase the collective frustrations, that is why some "outsider" politicians manage to connect with the masses. Yes, those same ones that seem to be sincere and understand the problems of the people, the populists.
A society is not more or less by its level of politicization. For example, when the individuals of a country are very involved in the hot-button issues, it is said to be a "polarized" society. If, on the other hand, individuals feel aversion, we say that they are "apolitical" and do not participate in public debate. Be that as it may, politics is exciting, as long as there is a supreme body in charge of watching over the rules of the game.
"The human being is a political being", said the philosopher Aristotle, but political in what way, possibly politics is more linked to the interests of the leader than to those of the masses. When a leader understands the message he must convey to capture the attention of the public, then he becomes their interest. People are always in search of improving their situation, that is why they see politics as a system to achieve it, however, politicians never deliver 100% of what they promise.
This is simple, human beings are driven by their interests. Politics is as human as its leaders, why? because it is a system created by men. And the interests of human beings are not constant, but rather vary due to their unstable condition. But not only Aristotle knew how to see the human condition of politics, but others throughout history have thought of the past, the future and the present as equal.
Winston Churchill, for example, knew how to unite a people despite the Nazi threat. When half of Europe was subjected to another authoritarian and murderous political system, called dictatorship, Churchill bet on the freedom of the English. Another visionary was Abraham Lincoln, who believed that a ballot was stronger than a bullet, why, politics has in its favor that, through it, we can transform society in a positive way.
Then there are those evil men who have brought their people to ruin. Dictatorships like that of Robert Mugabe or Idi Amin, sowed terror in their countries and subjected them to poverty. Hitler, Mussolini, Franco and the first governments of Latin America in the 20th century, led their peoples to suffer repression and censorship.
Others, however, such as Marcos Pérez Jiménez in Venezuela, Alberto Fujimori in Peru or Augusto Pinochet in Chile, despite their totalitarian regimes, led their countries to development. Others, such as Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, are on the list of those who destroyed the "legacy of their predecessors". Nicolás Maduro has remained in power despite multiple protests and international rejection, mostly due to how tired many of us are of our country's politics.
*The price of neglecting politics is to be governed by the worst men "* Plato would say. This last sentence perfectly answers how important the citizenry is to ensure that the politicians who hold the reins of our countries are the right ones for the future. Churchill would say it better: *"every people has the leader it deserves "*, I am sure that is true. Politicians are not chosen by animals, it is we humans who choose our leaders. Each leader is a reflection of the society they govern. If we have a group of individuals who think of the common good, above their own interests, then surely we will have a better ruler.
I would probably one day like to hold a political office with less public exposure. I started working in a mayor's office and there I fell in love with the process of helping people in need. That is probably what most caught my attention about doing politics, however, to do real politics in today's Venezuela is to fight against repression. To think differently is a crime in the country where I live, especially political rivals are persecuted.
But I am sure of one thing, and that is that democracy, with its flaws, is the only system that has worked for us over the years. Although countries like Russia and China, both with authoritarian governments, try to destabilize the democracies of the West, I believe that in the end we will succeed in defeating evil. Communism and socialism have proven to be as harmful to free societies as the extreme right or the extreme left. Democracy is a political system of balance.
A balance that is agreed upon by broad sectors of society. Moribund or not, there is no better system than democracy today, nor is there even a short, medium or long term replacement on the horizon. Nor are the days of politics numbered; on the contrary, we must strengthen it.

La política casi siempre ha estado en la civilización, mucho más que cualquier otro hecho humano. La humanidad siempre ha necesitado un líder y esa persona necesita tener un liderazgo nato, para guiar a su nación, etnia o grupo a alcanzar los objetivos que se planteen como sociedad. Muchos dicen que la política es corrupta, yo no creo que, en sí, sea algo negativo. De hecho, el ser humano es corrupto, casi por naturaleza, ya que casi siempre nos vemos tentados a hacer lo malo.
Muchos son los sistemas políticos que se han implementado a lo largo de la historia y todavía creo que estamos en un momento de ensayo y error. Esto es porque buscamos un sistema político que sea perfecto y lo único que hacemos es acrecentar las frustraciones colectivas, es por ello que algunos políticos "outsiders" logran conectar con las masas. Si, esos mismos que parecen que son sinceros y que entienden los problemas de la gente, los populistas.
Una sociedad no es más o menos por su nivel de politización. Por ejemplo, cuando los individuos de un país se involucran mucho en los temas álgidos, se dice que es una sociedad "polarizada". Si, por el contrario, los individuos sienten aversión, decimos que son "apolíticos" y que no participan en el debate público. Sea como sea, la política es apasionante, siempre y cuando haya un órgano supremo que se encargue de velar por las reglas del juego.
"El ser humano es un ser político", decía el filósofo Aristóteles, pero, ¿político en qué forma?, posiblemente la política está más ligada a los intereses del líder que a los de las masas. Cuando un líder entiende el mensaje que debe transmitir para captar la atención del público, entonces se convierte en su interés. La gente siempre está en búsqueda de mejorar su situación, por eso ve en la política un sistema para lograrlo, sin embargo, los políticos nunca cumplen al 100% lo que prometen.
Esto es sencillo, el ser humano se maneja por sus intereses. La política es tan humana como sus líderes, ¿por qué?, porque es un sistema creado por hombres. Y los intereses de los seres humanos, no son constantes, sino que más bien varían por su condición inestable. Pero no solo Aristóteles, supo ver la condición humana de la política, valga la redundancia, otros a lo largo de la historia han pensado en el pasado, futuro y el presente, como un igual.

Cada líder es un reflejo de la sociedad la cual gobiernan. Si tenemos a un grupo de individuos que piensan en el bien común, por encima de sus intereses, entonces seguramente vamos a tener un mejor gobernante.
Probablemente, algún día me gustaría tener un cargo político de menor exposición pública. Comencé trabajando en una alcaldía y allí me enamoré del proceso que conlleva ayudar a la gente que lo necesita. Eso es, probablemente, lo que más me llamó la atención de hacer política, sin embargo, hacer la verdadera política en la Venezuela de hoy en día, es luchar contra la represión. Pensar diferente es un delito en el país en el cual vivo, sobre todo, se persiguen a los rivales políticos.
Pero, de algo, estoy seguro y es que la democracia, con sus defectos, es el único sistema que nos ha funcionado a lo largo de los años. Aunque países como Rusia y China, ambos con gobiernos autoritarios, traten de desestabilizar las democracias de occidente, creo que al final lograremos vencer al mal. El comunismo y el socialismo, han demostrado ser nocivos para las sociedades libres, tanto como la extrema derecha o la extrema izquierda. La democracia es un sistema político de equilibrios.
Equilibrio que es consensuado por amplios sectores de la sociedad. Moribunda o no, no existe hoy un sistema mejor que la democracia, ni siquiera se vislumbra en el horizonte un reemplazo a corto, mediano o a largo plazo. Tampoco la política tiene sus días contados, por el contrario, debemos fortalecerla.
