Many people on here use real names for their accounts. This seems common enough for bloggers, and users of social media. I have realized it is not so common when you start looking at the users from the crypto forums. At first it did not seem like a big deal, but I think I understand it now. When there are large amounts of money involved, you do not need everyone on the internet knowing your real name and location. If the current uptrend of value continues, some of these accounts are going to be worth huge sums of money.

Lets face it, there are some really bad people in this world. You cannot, and should not trust everyone you meet. There are some people who's main goal is to take whatever they can from someone else. Even if your account does not have much liquid wealth, people could come after you for it. They can see the value of it, and try to take the entire account from you, or just take some of the nice things you posted about purchasing. Use caution in your day to day real life dealings with people.  Even if you do not mention the value of your account, if you are out there promoting the site, and your account is in your real name, it will be easy enough for them to find the value.

Big brother is watching you, like he always has been. But now, if you have an account in your name, he has unmuteable evidence of your daily internet ramblings, pictures of the weed you are growing, and records of the large sums of Bitcoin you have earned for posting. Not as big a deal as the last paragraph, but is still something to consider. When tax season comes around, if your account is in your name, you may want to reconsider concealing some of your steemit income, if it is large enough to worry about an audit.
