<P><div class="text-justify">"The extension of sound is music". A phrase that sums up perfectly how this character, our protagonist today, thought. Born in Seattle, Washington, USA. James Marshall Hendrix, better known to everyone as "Jimi" or "Hendrix", a guy who from day one began to completely change the way we saw, felt and experienced music. He was a slim guy, not very tall, left-handed, with a beautiful afro characteristic of the 60's and early 70's, leader of a musical movement that revolutionised the black American sound and that had him as a figurehead, a bastion, a prize for the beauty of the sound that came out of his guitar for the joy of us all. A poet I come to pay tribute to and remember in these lines.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">"La extensión del sonido, es la música". Una frase que resume perfectamente cómo pensaba este personaje, nuestro protagonista del día de hoy. Nacido en Seattle, Washington, Estados Unidos. James Marshall Hendrix, mejor conocido por todos como "Jimi" o "Hendrix", un sujeto que desde el primer día empezó a cambiar por completo cómo veíamos, sentíamos y vivíamos la música. Era un tipo delgado, no muy alto, zurdo, con un precioso afro característico de la década del 60's e inicios de los 70's, líder de una movida musical que revolucionó el sonido negro estadounidense y que lo tuvo a él como una figura, un baluarte, un premio a la belleza del sonido que de su guitarra salía para el gozo de todos nosotros. Un poeta que vengo a homenajear y recordar en estas líneas.</div></P>

<P><div class="text-justify">For those of us who love music, the great Jimi Hendrix will always be a benchmark for what can be achieved when talent is combined with substance. He represents so much to a generation that saw perhaps the greatest musicians in recent music history. Let's remember that Hendrix's artistic career lasted only 4 years. That means that from the age of 23 to 27, "Jimi" had time to enter immortality. No MTV, not too much radio play, no Grammys, no international tours. It is a key detail to understand the greatness of a genius. In fact, as I write these lines I am listening to "Hey Joe" in the background. One of the best arranged blues songs I have ever heard in my life, and my skin crawls with the virtuosity it conveys.</div></P>

<P><div class="text-justify">A virtuosity that very few musicians have ever had, combined with the wonder of a voice that is not so rough and gruff but not so calm and gentle either. The right tone to reflect the inner beauty that he had. I know that there are many, many people who admire him and even today, at the end of 2022, still listen to him with frequency and passion, but I am also aware that many decades have passed since his death and the pace of today's music does not give us time to stop and slow down to appreciate what some figures have done in the history of music. But don't worry, I will leave throughout the post songs that are worthy of the best headphones, peace that only the solitude of a comfortable place can provide, and squinting. Nothing more.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Para aquellos que amamos la música, el gran Jimi Hendrix, siempre será un referente en cuanto a lo que se puede alcanzar cuando se combina el talento con la sustancia. Él representa muchísimo para una generación que vio a, quizá, los mejores músicos de la historia reciente de la música. Recordemos, que la carrera artística de Hendrix duró solamente 4 años. Eso quiere decir, que desde los 23 años y hasta los 27, "Jimi" tuvo tiempo para entrar a la inmortalidad. Sin MTV, sin demasiada radio a su favor, sin Grammys, ni giras internacionales. Es un detalle clave para entender la grandeza de un genio. De hecho, mientras escribo estas líneas escucho de fondo "Hey Joe". Una de las canciones que mejor arreglo de blues he escuchado en mi vida, y tengo la piel erizada por lo que transmite.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Una virtuosidad que muy pocos músicos han tenido, en combinación con la maravilla de una voz no tan áspera ni ruda pero tampoco tan calma y apacible. El tono adecuado para reflejar la belleza interna que él tenía. Sé que hay muchísima gente que lo admira y aún hoy, a finales de 2022, todavía lo escucha con frecuencia y pasión, pero también soy consciente que desde su muerte han pasado muchas décadas  y el ritmo de la música actual no da tregua para detenernos un poco e ir más despacio para valorar lo que algunas figuras han hecho en la historia de la música. Pero no se preocupen, dejaré a lo largo de todo el post canciones que son merecedoras de los mejores audífonos, paz que sólo la soledad de un lugar cómodo puede brindar, y entrecerrar los ojos. Nada más.</div></P>

<P><div class="text-justify">However, I cannot overlook what dampened the brilliant career that this young and unforgettable friend had ahead of him. Once again, substance abuse was fatal for poor Jimi. And I'm not victimising him, on the contrary, I'm trying to understand what made such a talented and unique, subtle and good guy end up in a hotel room, in a filthy bathroom, with an overdose that closed his eyes forever. And I think it has a lot to do with his tough childhood, in a segregated country, coupled with the violence of the early 50's and the immaturity of suddenly facing unparalleled fame, which came almost overnight...</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Ahora bien,  no puedo pasar por alto lo que mermó la brillante carrera que este joven e inolvidable amigo tenía por delante. Una vez más, el abuso de sustancias fue fatal para el pobre Jimi. Y no lo victimizo, al contrario, intento comprender qué hizo que un chico tan talentoso y único, sutil y bueno, terminara en una habitación de hotel, en un baño mugriento, con una sobredosis que cerró sus ojos para siempre. Y creo que tiene mucho que ver con su dura infancia, en una país segregado, sumado a la violencia de principios de los años 50's y la inmadurez propia de enfrentarse de pronto a una fama sin igual, que vino casi de la noche a la mañana...</div></P>

<P><div class="text-justify">Sometimes, what we experienced as children marks our lives forever. It habituates us to the undesirable. This was, in my opinion, what happened to Jimi Hendrix, and what explains the unique emotion that he transmits in almost all his songs. Although they are magnificent, it is no less true that they are full of melancholic and somewhat sad tones. To assimilate this is sometimes impossible if you add drugs, alcohol and abuse. But you can't talk about what wasn't, but about what was. And with this guy, rock and roll changed forever and for the better. He brought the influence of classic southern rock from the United States, but improved it with the use of wah-wah and electric pedals with echo and resonance for the electric guitar.</div></P>

<P><div class="text-justify">In football and in music, especially in guitar playing, there is a saying that goes something like this: "if you're left-handed, you're probably good at playing guitar". And on this occasion it's not so untrue. Who could deny the magic that Hendrix was lavishing in spades when he took up the guitar and started playing? No one in their right mind could deny that this guy had a gift. He could not sing or make any sound that put any stretch of lyricism into his compositions, and they still ended up being masterpieces. Undoubtedly, a genius of our modern era and one that not many people (unfortunately) have paid attention to.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">A veces, lo que vivimos de niños nos marca la vida para siempre. Nos habitúa a lo no deseable. Esto fue, desde mi opinión, lo que le sucedió a Jimi Hendrix, y lo que explica esa emoción tan única que él transmite en casi todos sus temas. Que si bien son magníficos, no menos cierto es que están repletos de tonalidades melancólicas y algo tristes. Asimilar esto, a veces es imposible si a eso le añades drogas, alcohol y abusos. Pero no se puede hablar de lo que no fue, sino de lo que sí fue. Y con este sujeto, el rock and roll cambió para siempre y para bien. Trajo la influencia del rock sureño clásico de los Estados Unidos, pero mejorándolo con el uso del "wah-wah" y pedales eléctricos con eco y resonancia para la guitarra eléctrica.</div></P> 

><P><div class="text-justify">En el fútbol y en la música, especialmente en la ejecución de la guitarra, hay un dicho que más o menos reza así: "si eres zurdo, probablemente seas bueno para tocar la guitarra". Y en esta ocasión no es tan falso ¿Quién podría negar la magia que Hendrix derrochaba a montones cuando asumía la guitarra y empezaba a tocar? Nadie en su sano juicio podría negar que este tipo tenía un don. Podía no cantar o emitir sonido alguno que pusiera algún tramo de lírica a sus composiciones, y aún así, terminaban siendo obras maestras. Sin dudas, un genio de nuestra época moderna y que no muchas personas (infortunadamente) han prestado atención.</div></P>

While everyone else was making music more closely linked to pop and soft rock, he dedicated himself to expressing as little as possible in words and focused more on the arrangements and technical details of the sound of the electric guitar that he played so beautifully. This is how we get to hear great songs like "Fire", "Voodoo Child", "All Along The Watchtower", "Foxy Lady" and many more. And this detail will always distinguish him within the rich and nurtured universe of rock and roll. The shy, retiring kid from Seattle who conquered the world with what no one but him could achieve with his fingers.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Y es que, para entender completamente a Hendrix, necesario es tener en cuenta en cuál momento histórico él vivió. Mientras todos hacían música más ligada al pop y al rock suave, él se dedicaba a expresar lo menos posible en palabras y se enfocaba más en los arreglos y detalles técnicos del sonido de la guitarra eléctrica que tan maravillosamente tocaba. Así es como llegan a nosotros temazos como "Fire", "Voodoo Child", "All Along The Watchtower", "Foxy Lady" entre muchísimo más. Y este detalle lo distinguirá siempre dentro del universo rico y nutrido del rock and roll. El chico tímido y retraído de Seattle que conquistó a todo el mundo con lo que nadie más que él podía lograr con sus dedos.</div></P>

For these and many other reasons that I cannot put into words is that I love this guy. A poet from the very conception of the sound he emitted but also a silent genius, someone who preferred little company to the din and flashes. He was born on the 27th of November, I couldn't reciprocate with this post at the time, but there was no way I was going to miss this opportunity to do so.</div></P> 

<P><div class="text-justify">Nowadays, artists like Slash or Lenny Kravitz are the ones who, from my perspective, tend to have the most notable influence of Hendrix. I wouldn't say, by any means, that they are the same but I do find similarities that make me smile. As Aristotle said, everything renews itself. Nothing is completely original. Therefore, life, music, art, culture, sound, always renews itself, but without completely detaching itself from that primordial origin. A luxury, I tell you, truly, to be able to live in a historical moment where I am just a click away from anything: including, of course, the experience of hearing, enjoying and loving my friend (that's how I consider him) Jimi Hendrix. May you, too, be able to enjoy it.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Si lo notan bien, él fue uno de los primeros en todo. En emplear los efectos de sonido para mejorar la experiencia de la guitarra en sonidos en vivo, en la combinación de acorde entre el blues clásico y el rock and roll, en interpretar solo extensos y más propios de géneros como el Jazz y además, jamás renegó de su propia ascendencia negra, que tanto la ha dado al mundo. Por estas y muchas razones que no puedo plasmar en palabras es que yo amo a este sujeto. Un poeta desde la mismísima concepción del sonido que emitía pero también un genio silente, alguien que prefería la poca compañía al estruendo y los flashes. Un 27 de noviembre nació, no pude corresponderle con este post en aquél entonces, pero de ninguna manera iba a desaprovechar esta oportunidad para hacerlo.</div></P>

><P><div class="text-justify">Actualmente, artistas como Slash o Lenny Kravitz, son los que, desde mi perspectiva, tienden a poseer más influencia notable de Hendrix. No diría, de ninguna manera, que son iguales pero sí hallo similitudes que me hacen sonreír. Como dijo Aristóteles, todo se renueva. Nada es completamente original. Por tanto, la vida, la música, el arte, la cultura, el sonido, siempre se renueva pero sin desprenderse del todo de aquél origen primigenio. Un lujo, les digo, de verdad, poder vivir en momento histórico donde estoy a click de distancia de lo que sea: incluído, por supuesto, la experiencia de oír, disfrutar y amar a mi amigo (así lo considero) Jimi Hendrix. Ojalá ustedes, también puedan disfrutarlo.</div></P>
