Is it better to choose your partner, or you are willing to have your parents choose for you. Arranged marriages used to be the norm, but it's gradually fading away. My maternal grandparents married in 1956 by kind courtesy of their parents. They lived in the same community in Anfoega in the Volta Region of Ghana. They stayed married until their deaths and had 10 children, all of whom are alive. <center>https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/b2b05a4ab25f4fca0316459e1c7404c537a89702/c=0-0-1365-768/local/-/media/2018/08/16/USATODAY/usatsports/istock-662882624-e1534270294470.jpg?width=3200&height=1680&fit=crop [Source](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/09/26/millennials-blame-lower-us-divorce-rate-study/1429494002/)</center> Today, lots of youth hate the idea of their parents choosing a life partner for them. With the increasing rate of divorce, is that such a bad thing? About 90% of marriages in India are arranged and would you believe they have a divorce rate of us low as 1.1% according to this [website](https://brandongaille.com/25-shocking-arranged-marriages-statistics/). Are the old ways better than the new ways now? There are places where you don't need a reason to divorce. If parents arrange marriage for their child, the child might probably ask, why am I getting married to this man/woman. So if there needs to be a reason for marriage, shouldn't there be a reason for divorce? The world is headed for dangerous grounds if this law becomes popular. When my grandparents got married, people often entered marriage as virgins. They didn't have experience from anywhere, so got to learn from each other. Not the same this days. Old ways, new ways, I don't know. Do I have a preference of choosing my own partner or my parents choosing for me, I don't know. Whatever it is, times have indeed changed. More people have decided not to even marry for there to be a divorce. *** This is an Invitation to join #ccc for [Guaranteed 👍 Daily Income 💵 and Payout 💸 for Newbies (2.0) 🐟 🐜 🐛 in #ccc 👣 and Follow 👣 the Honor Code 🏅 - the Creed (Conditions and Limits Inside)](https://steemit.com/ccc/@freedomshift/guaranteed-daily-income-and-payout-for-newbies-2-0-in-ccc-and-follow-the-honor-code-the-creed-conditions-and-limits-inside) AND the [latest update](https://steemit.com/ccc/@freedomshift/an-update-v2-1-to-guaranteed-daily-income-and-payout-for-newbies-2-0-in-ccc-and-follow-the-honor-code-the-creed-conditions-and) <<< _please click to read._

That is an interesting question. I don't know how it goes in other countries but in the Netherlands, you can not just get married. You need to make an appointment plus there is a waiting time. They will figure out if you are not already married etc and people can come if they do not agree with you getting married. You can also not easily divorce and there has to be a good reason given for that too. You need a lawyer and go to court. It can take months and even if the judge agrees both partners have to sign this agreement of the judge. As long as one refuses you are not divorced. If you have children the misery is even worse. It all costs years of your life plus a lot of money so I agree better not get married. I do not see the need of a couple to stay together if they cannot stand each other or the woman is molested. This happens a bit too frequently. It does not make anyone happy and it is a bad example given to children as well. What I hear about India, how women from different casts a threaten, are looked down upon if they do not get children etc is not what I would see as a good example for a low percentage of divorces. It also says nothing about happiness or for example cheating on a partner. I agree that falling in love is not the same as love. Falling in love will be over, love grows through the years. You need to respect someone and count on and trust that person. Trusting someone is the hardest thing to do these days. A couple can stay together till their death but it says nothing about the bond. More about the need, not able to leave. A good reason is no money. To me, it is cheating too if you think or long for someone else. Church/religion, a certain society, women with fewer rights and who are not independent are good for a marriage where divorce is not allowed. I think if it comes to marriage you have to be the kind of person who likes to commit to someone and gives up on his own dreams and wishes, lives to sacrifice himself in the name of what people call love. If it comes to it most people don't. They like the good times not the bad. I am one of these people who do not like to sacrifice in name of love. I am not raised to get married and I do not like to take care of an adult man. I do not like to listen to complaining and "stroke" a man's ego. I hate it to be the adult while a man says he will always be a child. Perhaps I would give it a try if my parents had found me a nice guy but I am not sure that would have worked. My grandfather wanted his daughters to be independent. That was in 1939 so he already knew, or had the experience with his own unlucky marriage, that it was better and healthier to stay single. Thank you for your entry. You have number #3 💕 Posted using [Partiko Android](https://partiko.app/referral/wakeupkitty)

A lot of processes in Netherlands. It's much easier getting married and divorcing here in Ghana because we've thrown our culture away and now copying the West, America to be precise. I believe there's one person for everyone, and you don't enjoy marriage when it's not with that one person. You wouldn't have to give up anything if you both decide not to.

I agree with you a relationship is useless it both do not can be themselves and are willing to compromise. I don't know if there is a person for everyone. I never met this person although I tried it more as once. Sorry to hear it is so easy to get and married and divorced. In some occasions it might be better, years of fighting till the divorce is a fact is bad too. Perhaps it is also a way here to make money out of it. A lawyer seldom adds some value to it. You should think adults are wiser and think before they say "yes" make a promise till eternity. 💕 Posted using [Partiko Android](https://partiko.app/referral/wakeupkitty)
