A wild day today. I read a n interview with the pope, and he said there was no hell. That if you were not eight with God your soul just disappears.

That is pretty big for millions of people around the world. If there is no negative destination then what did we need saved from.

It is a pretry heavy question. Science may believe that when we die we are worm food ans thats it....looks like the pope agrees. Be well!

I think people will believe as they want too. Everyone has a different interpretation of the Bible and make it what they want to make it. There are many arguments every day over this is what I believe and if you do not believe like this then you are wrong. As I was raised independent fundamental Baptist I was told that all other beliefs were wrong, no matter what, end of discussion. We have to free will to choose what we want to believe in and how we choose to believe and live and that is a great thing. I know one thing is right and I think that do unto others as you would have them do unto you is a great start in the world we live in today.  We live in a crazy world right now and it will only get worse. Just my two cents.

I'm not Catholic so I don't have to care what the pope thinks, but his political and religious views are pretty squirrelly.

Right. When he speaks what he thinks with infallibility everything is official church business, but when he is making side comments that show he doesn't actually agree with what he is telling the world everyone shrugs it off.

In my opinion we need saved from our sin, not from hell. Alot of people look at Jesus as their fire insurance as you stated and they are truely missing the mark. The idea that God casts the unredeemed in to hell where they are tormented forever does not line up with what the Bible says.  That idea is of Hellenistic theology that was mixed in to the Catholic Church.  The Bible actually tells us that hell or sheol in the Greek will be cast in to the lake of fire.

>And Death and She’ol were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And if anyone was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

There is a really good book by Lex Meyer called Immortal that explores the idea of Hell and goes in to the origins of the words used in the Bible, like Hades, Sheol, Gehenna, and Tartarus.  I have the book in .PDF I could send it to you if you are interested.

I kind of agree with the pope on this, there is no hell....in the traditional sense that has been taught. I agree with you as well, our faith should not be just our fire insurance, but rather our faith should be lived out, as James said, faith without works is dead.

Right! It is a wild subject. For me, I try to not get caught up on things like the subject of hell, end times, or rapture. I don't even really talk much about whether we can _lose_ salvation or not. All of these seem to be hot buttons for people.

I love talking about end times Bible prophecy and rapture (or lack of scriptural evidence for a pre-tribulation rapture that is widely taught and believed by so many).  Talking about the things that are going to happen and we are going to witness in the end times gets me all fired up, in a good way. Yah used my love of end times prophecy and conspiracy theories to lead me to the truth of his torah.
