That's a wrap! Last creation of the decade

So it is the end of 2019 and most are out celebrating the incoming new year, and what am I don't...blogging on Steem! 

Whenever I am doing something around my world, I always think about how I can share this with others and hopefully encourage everyone. 

Today we went and saw the movie Jumanji in the theater and it was awesome. We love movies, and I would dare say that it is our absolute favorite thing to do as a family. It was a nice and snowy day for a drive, and I can't gush enough about how nice of a day it was to just spend with family.

When that was all done it was back to the house, and was followed by some snow plowing and then some work outside in the shop. I have been working on a little piece this past week, and I really wanted to see what it would look like as a finished piece.

I have been creating using 5160 spring steel. It is a high carbon steel that is know for it's toughness. It did take some learning and touching up on my metallurgy, but I think I have gotten it figured out. I had to really working with my forge. It turns out that it was just too hot, and I was doing not so good things with the grains on the insides haha. 

So after all of that I wrapped it up tonight. Yesterday was filled with wet sanding the handle and applying tung oil. I am just thrilled how the handle turned out, atleast compared to alot of my experiences. One side turned out absolutely beautiful with the red grains showing through, and the other side did take on some of the sanding grit for a darker finish.

The thing that I love about knife making is that it is all about creating. I love that I have the opportunity to let my hands create what my mind is thinking, and then to see all of the perfect imperfections in my creations. I know that I am pushing myself to create something that looks like a machine made it, but dog gone it.... I don't know if I want to. I like the little scratches and the asymmetrical character.
