Gargoyles
I really like gargoyles. These figures, often in the form of fantasy creatures, can be seen on many old buildings here in France. The ones in this posts were on a church in L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue too.
The word gargoyle comes from the French word ‘gargouille’ meaning throat.
They are made to transport rain from the roof through the throat of the gargoyles and squirt it out of their mouth. This prevent rain from flowing over the building walls and damage the building.
'Unfortunately' it hasn't been bad weather, so I have never seen one being active yet.

# FriendlyMoose
Photographing is my passion. Although I like photography in general, nature photography is one of my favourite subjects. I often go out with my camera for a hike to capture the beauty of nature.

Although gargoyles are in the shapes of hideous and evil beings, they are a very interesting expression of medieval culture.

Certainly the gargoyles are interesting architectonic elements of the gothic churches. The majority based on mythological creatures.
