Yes, it feels more like people are building some big collective illustrated book here than a place for communication. And I'm definitely, not completely on purpose, contributing to that atmosphere ... because, for  now, I'm very focused on relatively long posts with many photographs because I see that this strategy leads to bigger rewards and faster increase of my Hivepower ... these posts also make me spend most of the free time I have on them ... and I'm usually left with not many time to explore all the interesting stuff that gets published every day. I hope ... and I'm pretty convinced ... that the next year, or a bit sooner, I'll be doing more exploring of other people's work ... and more commenting in a more relaxed way. 
But, when I think a bit more about this, the lack of time is only part of the problem in my case ... there is another, mysterious part :) I don't know why exactly it was always a bit hard for me to come up with a comment, even before, on Facebook if the post isn't a joke. I appreciate the good serious content, but often I just don't feel like I have something to say ... besides " Good job" ... " Great post" ... and so on. I'm trying to develop my comment capabilities ... but the progress is slow. 
When it comes to replying to the comments under my posts, that somehow is easier and I almost always reply ... if I'm out of ideas to write something, then I just upvote the comment :) and that feels like a good enough alternative.

I tend to spend most of my time in others posts commenting but unfortunately get little to no engagement on mine. Crisis of lack of attention on many, it seems. It seems that shitposts sometimes get more engagement than one with lots of thought and time behind it. Baffles me sometimes but we are in the "twitter" era, where character limits define peoples attention spam. If it's too long they just move on.

The truth is that there are people who are not reciprocal, ie, do not give to receive, just want to win, in this case by not responding to a comment from someone who is taking the time to visit your post, be losing credibility in the community, you are implying that you just want to be one more of the bunch. That's why I support your publication, you have to be responsible and above all HUMAN.

Feels hard to write a comment these days. Feels like 9/11 aftermath right now. Except this was just the beginning. Hive is a tiny echo-chamber but people are looking for alternatives like never before. Maybe 1 or 2 will find their way here. It is like swimming against the stream.

I've discovered a thing or two over the years by using this and the other network and think I could expand the thinking of the right audience.  Unfortunately, I have a lot of personal issues to overcome to try and make things easy for people so I often lose the struggle of patience myself.  But for people I follow, seeing them make a post on a blockchain and then seeing their daily activity on FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram or others, it's clear to me that a majority of "People" DO NOT BELONG HERE.  So I'm satisfied growing this network 1 user at a time now if that's what it takes to get REAL.  Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, on those other networks is remotely Real.  And what's worse is... neither are the "People."

That's why, i think, we need a good mobile app asap. Engagement feels tiring without it.

I have think there are a lot of other people like me... busy!!! Family, work, projects around the house, hobbies, getting the pool ready for summer, getting the camp trailer ready for camping, kids and their school work, more DIY projects, time with family.... life.... not much time to spend combing the Hive-o-Sphere.

Honestly, you are doing a whole lot to foster a lot of users to stay put way back from my early Steemit days in 2017 till here and now. Wish I could show my appreciation more but I'll keep saying my silent prayer of protection and safety for you and your family.

Guilty as charged. While I have been spending more time here since the lock down crap, I tend to only log in when I have power to vote. Despite my stake being higher than ever, I still run out pretty quick. I will continue working on that as the year progresses. 

Thank you for responding so quickly to my comment the other day. I got distracted watching the rest of that live feed you mentioned. From there I got pulled to Lazy Bikers channel to find the video of them finding those buckets of weed at the coyote camp, and from there pulled elsewhere. 

For whatever reason I can't have a YouTube account to participate in the live feeds. I've tried to have about 4 Google accounts over the last couple of years, and it never lets me back in (I always tried logging in sporadically). It will send a code to my phone but then still denies me so I finally gave up on having a Google account.

I think some of the engagement issues can be the approach of the authors. It feels many of them are more concerned with posting than any dialogue. I know its hard to reward comments, but maybe instead of writing 3 or more posts a day they should only write one and focus on cultivating dialogue within that one post. 

I noticed not long after joining that many here are primarily focused on maximizing their rewards. They don't seem to grasp the all ships rising as one concept, spread the wealth (among the right folks) means better for everyone. You see this with all the auto voting taking place that races one another to get the votes in before the rest. Never mind they don't actually read the damn post at all. The thought of logging in hours after a post was made and voting it after all those votes would make many cringe. 

Then you have the greedy folks who keep cross posting their own posts to get rewarded more than once. At least some I see doing that seem to be losing some of their auto voters. 

I think some of this will fix itself if they ever fine tune the search feature. I've been using it again lately as my feed has been light on interesting topics (further compounded by several who post multiple times a day and I prefer to spread my votes out). While if I look long enough i find some, they are interspersed with many posts that are not interesting to me, in a language I don't know or are a gem like this one I saw earlier.

Sorry turned into a little rant. Appreciate your continued interest in Lewis and his mission. He needs all the support and prayers he can get. Especially since his circle proved when they entrapped him that they would abandon him quickly.

Yeah engagement seems really down.  The people I follow certainly aren't posting as much either.  Personally I just can't be arsed.  I think all this virus stuff is gettin' me down.  Don't feel like doing anything (other than going to the pub - which is closed).
