I was chosen to accompany pupils to Malacca for an overseas learning experience. 

It is a great opportunity for students to learn about cultures of other countries.

They had the opportunity to experience village culture.

All photographs were taken during this trip.

Teachers can see the rich experience that our students are getting.

All students had to be In school by 6.30 am on the first day.

Many students were very tired since they had to wait up early.

The tour guide tried to share about the trip but the kids were too tired as you can see from the above picture.

Nature surrounded us as we headed for our destination on our tour bus.

For city kids, the sight of nature is rare so there were students taking many photographs.

Our first stop was the the village experience.

#### Gasing(Spinning Top)

It is interesting to see how our students tried to play this game called gasing.

They need to throw at a certain angle to get it to spin.

#### Rubber plantation

At the rubber plantation,  students were shown how rubber tapping was being done.

It was interesting to see the liquid flowing out of the rubber tree.

The only thing that we probably didn't like was there were lots of insects around.

 #### Making Ondeh-ondeh 

This is a very traditional food. Students had the chance to roll the dough and put in the black sugar into the dough.

The instructors helped them to cook them in boiling water. Students had the chance to taste what they had made.

#### Batik painting

Students learnt about how colours were put onto clothing in the past.

They got to keep the cloth that they coloured.

#### Staying on their own

This was probably the first time for most students to travel to another country without their parents.

They had the chance to stay in hotel rooms on their own.

They had to manage themselves without their parents in their hotel rooms.

#### In conclusion

The village experience was new to most of my students since most were staying in the modern city since young.

They had to get used to the muddy places as well as places that were dirty.

Staying on their own in the hotel was fun especially they had buffet breakfast.

It is a good learning experience about other cultures. Learning to understand and respect other cultures is important aspect of education.

Learning to be more independent without parents is a great learning experience.
