It's probably the most used program in this platform (particularly Hive & Steem); it's the Auto-Vote Bots! Some have their own script while many are using the free tools that are around since 3 years ago. While it's very helpful for accounts who have no time in curating posts manually, it also has a downside.

## The Upside

Don't get me wrong, I like how any account can earn passively through the use of this bot. It's a good idea to support an author in a timely manner. It actually solves the inactivity of some accounts that are idle virtually. Some authors are also motivated to keep producing content since they know that they have a patron that keeps upvoting for their content.

The other good thing about auto-vote bots is that it provides the necessary indirect support to communities or solo curators to strengthen their upvote and make it more rewarding for the recipient of the upvote. Since exploring for quality content is difficult to achieve in this platform, there are persevering communities that are effectively scouting for content to upvote. Basically, the ones who are using the auto-vote bot in supporting the cause of a community are also playing an important role in distributing new coins or tokens to the deserving authors. Also, it allows the auto-vote user to earn coins or tokens with zero effort throughout the process.


## The Downside

I've perused some criticism about it, a while back, one of the writers is essentially featuring the way that despite the fact that the article gets a respectable measure of rewards while the engagement is underwhelming. Why would that be? It implies that not many users really saw the article. Also, the users feel less motivated to even make a comment nowadays.

Another downside of using a bot by upvoting authors regularly and by following a trial is that it depletes the Voting Power very easily. By the time you wanted to utilize your upvotes manually, you are faced with the dilemma of not having enough upvotes to distribute.


## Final Thoughts

I believe auto-vote bot or scripts are here to stay. There are users who are using it to maximize their earning potential without spending too much time manually curating every content in their feed. It allows Voting Power to be utilized passively.

Even though there is a downside to the use of it, I believe the benefits that it brings to the users outweigh its negative effects.
