IoT is opening up new world of possibilities for businesses and consumers ever since the dawn of mobile revolution. It is expected that IoT product and service suppliers will generate $300 billion+ in revenue by 2020.

There has been a lot of confusion about IOT, is it Internet of Things or everything, what is in it for me as a person/business/government, where shall I start?This is creating a vague understanding of  technology in general and lack of commitment to the digitization of cities or organizations.

The simplify IOT into 4 categories are mentioned below. Reference from Ammar Sabbagh, academia, tech companies; urban development and enterprise companies.

**1 Urban IOT:**
-resource mgmt efficiency such as water, electricity, roads
-  transportation: managing all types of transportation for example, car location for traffic management, buses, ferries and metro for capacity mgmt
- smart homes & buildings

**2  Enterprise IOT:**
- predictive maintenance
- logistics for goods
- fleet management
- digital cash

**3  Industrial IOT**
- mining & oil industry: remote management, preventive maintenance of equipment -Security like: critical infra protection, access mgmt 

**4 Community IOT:**
- Apps for citizens: traffic info (my city), apps for tourists
- Apps for business: Airbnb, Uber, Careem, etc.
