What is TRON (TRX)?

Now a top 10 crypto and worth $14.6 billion you might be wondering, what is [TRON](https://tron.network/en.html)?

It’s a blockchain-based decentralized protocol that aims to construct a worldwide free content entertainment system with the blockchain and distributed storage technology.

So with TRON every user can freely publish, store, and own data. And content providers will no longer have to pay high channel fees to centralized platforms like Google Play and Apple’s App Store.

Here’s TRON’s roadmap for how they’re going to accomplish this:

Exodus – Data Liberation (Aug 2017 to Dec 2018) – will provide users with a completely free and reliable platform for data publication, storage and dissemination.

Odyssey – Content Empowerment (Jan 2019 to Jun 2020) – economic incentives for content creation, distribution, and dissemination.

Great Voyage – Personal ICOs (Jul 2020 to Jul 2021) – TRON adds income measurement, dividend payment, and management of supporters to go from the ‘fan economy’ to the ‘fan finance.’

Apollo – Free Movement of Value (Aug 2021 to Mar 2023) – decentralized token trading of user-issued tokens. Establish a DEX.

Star Trek – Traffic Monetization (Apr 2023 to Sep 2025) – Online gaming platform w SDK.

Eternity – Traffic Conversion (Sep 2025 to Sep 2027) – Same as Star Trek.

Looks to me a lot needs to be done and it’s already valued at $15 billion. But many are betting CEO [Justin Sun]( https://www.linkedin.com/in/sunyuchen) will pull it off.

He’s also the found of Peiwo, China’s Snapchat, which will be the first application on TRON.

Sun also had a stint at Ripple and is a protégé of Alibaba founder Jack Ma.

Many think he will be the next Jack Ma.

Regarding TRON, Sun has been sending out some positive tweets recently, like the one below, which has helped spur the recent rally.

TRON native asset is the TRX token. You can buy it on Binance, Liqui, HitBTC, EtherDelta, and Qryptos.

I'm kicking myself... when TRX was only 200-odd sat to buy in, I literally had only a few dollars so I threw it behind it.  But I was BRAND NEW to crypto exchanges, and I sold during a drop and it's taken me until this weekend when it hit 1300 sat to get my money back up and reinvest it during a drop to 900.  Hopefully it really takes off in the near future.

I think that Tron has potential, having a popular and charismatic man at the helm will certainty help, I got in a $0.04. I hope this ends up taking off. I think it is a lot more viable than most altcoins.

What's your opinion on his marketing activities on Twitter? Should a leader of a rising crypto be tweeting and obsessing about the price of his token? Also, what do you think of his % ownership of TRX tokens? 

I get that a founder needs incentive to continue working on a project, but it all seems so excessive here.

There's also the argument against centralization of LEADERSHIP, meaning he could be more of a liability than an asset to the company. 

This was Satoshi's most genius play. He, she, or they may not even be alive - and if they are, no one knows who they are, which completely eliminates founder risk from a project.

Anyways, appreciate the writeup. Made me think!

I'm not sure how much he owns but I did read there's at least a 2 or 3 lockup. That's decent.

The problem I have is just the valuation. Coins like TRX, ADA, EOS. I like them all but own very little b/c they're not even running yet and all worth over $5b. That's very bubbly. Rather have it in BTC.

Yeah. The valuation is fucking nutso bananas. My current strat is to pick coins that have working tech, in a sector that needs it, and a team that has proven track records of prior success in industry + constantly shipping code and communicating that to investors. So that rules out a LOT of coins :P

Thanks for the informative post. I think that Tron has some huge potential and a very impressive team. The fact that the CEO has close ties to the CEO of Alibaba and has already built a successful company makes it a very promising coin in my eyes. 

Once they stick to their road map, keep growing solid partnerships and do what they say they will do, I believe that Tron will be a very succsful cryptocurrency from a user based point of view.

Agreed. I think that it is overvalued (as are a lot of cryptocurrencies at the moment) in the current market, but we will see how the market plays out over the next few days/weeks regarding corrections!

I'm a believer in Tron, mostly because of its leadership team.  All coins show you the moon, but Tron is the real deal with Jack Ma involved with his protege it'll be a winner for sure!

I mentioned yesterday in my blog that I bought Tronix on an impulse buy, and I know that I shouldn't trade a coin based on a low price.

It was the top volume trader on Binance so I figured I'd throw some $$$ on it just the same...all trading is speculative, is it not?

Thanks, I have been wondering about TRON but was too lazy to research it and it seemed like the ship had sailed anyway. Now I know at least a little more. Still not buying at the top :P

Yea felt the same way but that little bit I got from Binance compelled me to take a look. Interesting but I'll wait for it to deflate first.
NEO, on the other hand, looking good and about to have a bunch of project launch on its platform. And you're right it's here (like Steem too!).

I have this annoying tendency to not jump onto things  fast enough. I signed up on Binance too late for the free coins, missed out on some TRON and QTUM that would've been nice. Then I hesitated too long with Kucoin and missed out on some DeepBrainChain last week. Kinda wanted that too, even though it was a tiny batch. These things have a weird tendency to go 10x!

Tron have no working product (just great teams and promises). There is only an idea behind this coin and the implementation is still a long way off. Although the intentions and technologies are described in great detail in the respective whitebooks, this does not justify a billion-dollar market capitalization for a long time.
