Greetings friends. Before the holidays I was making a little drawing to give it to my father. You see, I had many years without seeing him and the truth is that being here in Ecuador with him and my brother is a pleasure, so I had the idea of giving him a little gift for the 25th. 

Although I had many gift ideas, what I thought he would like the most was this little drawing inspired by an old photo of my father holding my brother's hand and carrying me, when we were both little. So I got to work.

>>Saludos amigos. Antes de las fechas festivas estuve haciendo un pequeño dibujo para regalárselo a mi padre. Verán, tenía muchos años sin verlo y la verdad es que estar aquí en Ecuador con el y con mi hermano es todo un gusto, así que tuve la idea de regalarlo un detallito para el 25.<br><br>Aunque tuve muchas ideas para regalar, lo que pensé que le gustaría más fue este pequeño dibujo inspirado en una vieja foto de mi padre llevando de la mano a mi hermano y cargándome a mi, cuando los dos estábamos pequeños. Así que pude manos a la obra.

The first thing I started with was the first strokes. The truth is not easy to make this kind of drawings and even more so when you are so out of practice, but I wanted to try because I really wanted to give her this gift. I made the first strokes very thin so that there would be no marks left in case I had to erase them.

>>Lo primero con lo que comencé fue con los primeros trazos. La verdad no es fácil de hacer este tipo de dibujos y más cuando se está tan falto de práctica, pero ahí quise intentarlo porque de verdad quería hacerle este regalo. Los primeros trazos los hice muy delgados para que no quedaran marcas en caso de que hubiese que borrar.

And yes, I erased many times because I couldn't find the right shape in some strokes, but in the end the strokes that I managed to do well, I marked them a little more with the pencil. Look at the image below to see how the highlighted strokes (the boy) and the unmarked strokes (my dad's pants) look.

>>Y sí, borre muchas veces porque no lograba dar con la forma correcta en algunos trazos, pero al final los trazos que logré hacer bien, los marqué un poco más con el lápiz. Fíjense en la imagen de abajo cómo se ven los trazos remarcados (el niño) y los trazos sin remarcar (el pantalón de mi papá).

After making the initial strokes, I began to make other lines on the face, both on my dad's and mine, to create depth and shadows. 

In the case of my dad's hair, I started to do it line by line, without following too many patterns because he had tousled hair. In the case of my baby self, she barely had any hair so I just did a few small shadows.

It is worth noting that to create that blurring effect I used a small cotton swab, which I rubbed over the graphite to blur and create those shadows that give so much life to any drawing.

>>Ya después de hacer los trazos iniciales, comencé a hacer otras líneas en el rostro, tanto en el de mi papá como en el mío, para crear profundidad y sombras.<br><br>En el caso del cabello de mi papá, comencé a hacerlo línea por línea, sin seguir demasiados patrones pues tenía el cabello alborotado. En el caso de mi yo bebé, apenas tenía cabello así que solo hice unas pequeñas sombras.<br><br>Cabe destacar que para crear ese efecto de difuminado usé un pequeño Hisopo de algodón, el cual froté sobre el grafito para difuminar y crear esas sombras que dan tanta vida a cualquier dibujo.

For the rest of the clothes I did the same thing, I made thick lines in the areas where I wanted to create shadows and filled in with the pencil with lines with less pressure from the pencil. Then I used the swab to blend the lines, just as I did before.

>>En el caso del resto de la ropa hice lo mismo, hice líneas gruesas en las áreas donde deseaba crear sombras y rellené con el lápiz con líneas con menos presión de parte del lápiz. Luego usé el hisopo para difuminar las líneas, tal como hice antes.

For the hair of my brother's drawing I did the same as with my dad's, with the difference that I did follow the lines, because my brother's hair is combed to one side only, so all the lines were done to that side.

On the other hand, the rest of the body I painted in a similar way, making pressure with the pencil in the areas where I wanted it to be darker and with less pressure in the other areas, blurring all the time with the swab to create the shadows.

>>Para el cabello del dibujo de mi hermano hice lo mismo que con el de mi papá, con la diferencia de que sí seguí las líneas, pues el cabello de mi hermano está peinado hacia un solo lado, así que todas las líneas las hice hacia ese lado.<br><br>Por otra parte, el resto del cuerpo lo pinté de manera similar, haciendo presión con el lápiz en las áreas donde deseaba que fuese más oscura y con menos presión en las otras áreas, difuminando en todo momento con el hisopo para crear las sombras.

Finally I added a little more shadow on the faces, to create more depth and try to make them look as similar as possible, although this is not always easy. I also made some lines on the clothes to simulate movement, although I don't know if it looked quite right.

>>Finalmente agregué un poco más de sombra en los rostros, para crear más profundidad y tratar de que se parecieran lo más posible, aunque esto no siempre es fácil. También hice algunas líneas en la ropa para simular movimiento, aunque no sé si quedó del todo bien.

To finish I simply added some lines in the background, to darken it. I did this by laying the pencil down a bit, gently rubbing it over the sheet from one side to the other. Of course, I blurred these lines a bit to give it a slightly softer finish.

>>Para finalizar simplemente agregué algunas líneas en el fondo, para oscurecerlo. Esto lo hice acostando un poco el lápiz, frotándolo suavemente sobre la hoja de un lado al otro. Por supuesto, difuminé un poco estas líneas para darle un acabado un poco más suave.
