As some of you know, I had a couple of cats in my house. Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to one of these to take her to my mom at my grandmother's house. There they needed a cat, I had two, so I gave them to her to be in her care.

Well, since I separated my two cats, the one that stayed with me started to behave strangely; she didn't eat as much as before, she was noticeably less active, she spent the whole day sleeping and hardly meowed. When she was with her sister, she seemed happier, so I decided to bring her a foster sister to see if those moods would change. I present to you the new member of the family!

Como algunos saben, tenía un par de gatas en mi casa. Lamentablemente, tuve que despedirme de una de estas para llevársela a mi mamá, en casa de mi abuela. Allí necesitaban un gato, yo tenía dos, así que se la entregué para que estuviera bajo su cuidado.

Pues bien, desde que separé a mis dos gatas, la que se quedó conmigo comenzó a comportarse extraño; no comía tanto como antes, era notablemente menos activa, se la pasaba todo el día durmiendo y casi ni maullaba. Cuando estaba con su hermanita, se veía más contenta así que decidí traerle una hermanita adoptiva a ver si esos ánimos cambiaban. ¡Les presento el nuevo integrante de la familia!

At my aunt's house, my cousin has a cat who recently had kittens. They had put several up for adoption, but she still had two left. One she kept and the other one I adopted. 

I went to pick him up today and brought him back in this little box. He was the skinnier of the two, so I guess he wasn't getting enough food from his mom.

En casa de mi tía, mi prima tiene una gata que recientemente tuvo gatitos. Habían puesto a varios en adopción, pero áun le quedaban dos. Uno se lo quedó ella y el otro lo adopté yo. 

Fui a buscarlo hoy y me lo traje en esta cajita. Era el más flaco de los dos, por lo que supongo que no se alimentaba lo suficiente de su mamá.

When I got home, I opened the box slowly so as not to cause him any stress, as I know that this kind of change of home usually stresses cats, especially if he is small.

I didn't want to take him out of the box, but I removed the lid and waited for him to make the decision to go out, when he was confident. It took him quite a while to feel comfortable, but he finally got the courage to get out of the box, but he didn't go too far away.

Al llegar a casa, abrí la cajita lentamente para no causarle ningún tipo de estrés, pues sé que este tipo de cambios de hogar suele estresar a los gatos, sobre todo si está pequeño.

No quise sacarlo de la caja, sino que le retiré la tapa y esperé a que él mismo tomase la decisión de salir, cuando tuviese confianza. Tardó un buen rato en sentirse cómodo, pero finalmente se animó a salir de la caja, pero no se alejó demasiado.

Since he stayed in the same place, next to his box, I found some cat food and put it on top of the cardboard lid. He ate some and stayed that way for quite a while. Patience was key at this point.

Como se quedaba en el mismo sitio, junto a su cajita, le busqué un poco de alimento para gatos y se lo puse encima de la tapa del cartón. Comió un poco y se quedó así por un buen rato. La paciencia fue clave en este momento.

Luckily he finally started to move away from the box. My uncle had come home to see the kitten, as he loves animals too. 

The two of us were there, sitting next to the kitten waiting for him to get excited about discovering his new home. 

After about twenty minutes, the kitten started to move away from the box where I brought him and as soon as he became confident, he started to venture all over the place, sniffing all over the place.

Por suerte finalmente comenzó a alejarse de la caja. Mi tío había llegado a casa para ver al gatito, pues también le encantan los animales. 

Los dos estuvimos allí, sentados junto al gatito esperando que se animase a ir descubriendo su nuevo hogar. 

Al cabo de unos veinte minutos, el gatito comenzó a alejarse de la cajita donde lo traje y tan pronto tomó confianza, comenzó a aventurarse por todos lados, olfateando por todo el lugar.

I guess he sensed the smells my cat had left, because he perfectly followed the trail to a spot in the yard where my cat does her business. 

I also realized that he is so small that he could escape through a drain, so I started plugging the holes where he could escape or get trapped. Then I took a few pictures of him as I continued to explore his new home.

Supongo que sentía los olores que había dejado mi gata, porque siguió de manera perfecta el rastro hacia un lugar del patio en donde mi gata hace sus necesidades. 

También me di cuenta de que es tan pequeño que se podía escapar por un desagüe, así que comencé a tapar los agujeros por donde podría escapar o quedar atrapado. Luego me puse a tomarle unas cuántas fotos mientras continuaba explorando su nuevo hogar.

During all this time, my other cat, Shuri, had stayed away from the kitten. She is usually very shy and skittish around strangers, so I expected this behavior. But as the days go by she will get used to her new brother, although I don't know if it's a female or male, I'll find out later.

What I did take the opportunity to do, was to ask my uncle to hold the two cats at a relatively short distance to take a picture of them. I was very amused by how my cat looked at the new member of the family, with a look that says "Don't come closer, creature"....

Durante todo este tiempo, mi otra gata, Shuri, se habia mantenido alejada del gatito. Por lo general es muy tímida y asustadiza con los extraños, así que esperaba este comportamiento. Later that day, I allowed the kitten into the house, after making sure there was nowhere for him to escape. He curiously entered the kitchen, the living room and even my bedroom. 

No doubt he sensed all the smells that my two cats had left all over the house, because he kept sniffing all over the place, as if he was looking for my other cat, who was simply hiding away from the kitten, as if he could hurt her.

Sin duda sentía todos los olores que mis dos gatas habian dejado por toda la casa, porque no paraba de olfatear por todo en lugar, como si estuviese buscando a mi otra gata, quien simplemente se mantenía oculta lejos del gatito, como si este pudiera hacerle daño.

The good thing is that once inside the house he seemed calmer, much less frightened than before. At least he could walk around the house freely, although with some fear for the other cat that would peek out from time to time to see him from afar.

The place where the kitten settled and which she did not want to leave, was the living room furniture, where she stayed for quite a while. Once there, I took the opportunity to take a couple of pictures of her, since she had finally settled down...

Lo bueno es que una vez dentro de la casa se le veía más tranquilo, mucho menos asustado que antes. Por lo menos recorría la casa libremente, aunque con cierto temor por la otra gata que se asomaba de vez en cuando para verlo desde lejos.

El lugar en el que se acomodó el gatito y el cual no quiso abandonar, fue el mueble de la sala, donde se quedó por un buen rato. Una vez ahí, aproveché de tomarle un par de fotos, ya que finalmente se había quedado tranquilo...

I imagine the adjustment process will be quicker for this kitten because he is so small. I've found that moving affects cats more when they are bigger, so I'm confident that kitty will feel confident in a couple of days.

Hopefully my cat won't do him any harm while he gets used to her presence, sometimes she can be very rough with her games and this kitten is very small.....

Imagino que el proceso de adaptación será más rápido para este gatito porque está muy pequeño. He visto que las mudanzas le afectan más a los gatos cuando son más grandes, así que confío en que el gatito se sentirá en confianza en un par de días.

Ojalá mi gata no le haga ningún daño mientras se acostumbra a su presencia, a veces puede ser muy ruda con sus juegos y este gatito es muy pequeño...
