The Arch of Hadrian
My first name is Adrian, and maybe it's silly just from this detail, but I was curious to know more about the Arch of Hadrian (or Hadrian's Gate) we can also find among the ancient monuments of Athens.

This image below was taken yesterday, as we passed by the arch, on the other side of the road.

Today we've taken a bus tour which we'll continue tomorrow, because frankly the day before was exhausting.

As we waited to switch the lines, on our way back, I took other pictures of the Arch of Hadrian from the other side, but it was already darker and they aren't very good. Plus I am an absolute amateur with pictures.

Anyway, [further investigation](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arch_of_Hadrian_(Athens)) revealed to me that this arch was probably ordered by citizens of Athens in the honor of the Emperor Hadrian's arrival.

Hadrian was a great admirer of Greek culture and [sought to make Athens the cultural capital of the entire Roman Empire](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadrian), and this way we can understand why did Athenians want to build him this Arch.
