At first I might consider this wrong that people with certain medical issues do have power to affect their lives positively but I have seen many disabled people who have achieved so much in their lives and they are happy with what they have in their lives 
We all have that power, we just need to find it.

Currently reading 48 laws of power from Robert Greene. 
I can write a lot of things about it right now and how important for someone to KNOW your power, adjust, gain more, stabilize. 
But I want to finish the book first 😄

Power is necessary for anyone, anywhere all the time. Better learn to understand the applications of it 👏💪🙏

This is what I said in a recent post, and so it is. Power is not something good or bad, but each person's intentions make it good or bad.

For me power is that ability you are talking about, an ability to do or not to do something and that can have connotations in ourselves or in others. The important thing is the mastery over ourselves, by knowing ourselves we can use our power with ourselves and always improve ourselves well.... Well, there are those who do it for the bad.

Yes, I have suffered from the power of others over me in the past, both in words, beliefs, influences, fear .... both in the family and at work, possessive boss, with ideas that washed people's heads. 

I managed to get out of all that by remembering my power, my ability, to master myself, my inner strength. How did I do it? With that internal dialogue that you talked about .... there came a time when I didn't do it anymore and that affected me badly. So I went back to talk to myself and solve what was making me bad .... bad influences.

Power. A word that has the will to redefine us when our skills set into it. It can be negative or positive, especially when it deals with *Us* time.

Our word when we have our alone time can shape us to be better,  or not... this is why I am always careful before putting the skill to practice.

This is a tough one. For the longest time I was a department of one person. I pretty much took care of everything myself. Now I have a worker under me and I would like to think that I do a good job of being in a position of power without abusing it, but I honestly don't know. I was raised in a different time and people don't respond to authority the way I was taught to.

Abuse of power is something we are rife with these days. I don’t know if it’s because it’s more easily visible or what but the example of billions upon billions going to other countries for issues but a town in central US is still poisoned. Destroyed homes in Hawaii. Lots of other examples for sure. No money for them though, or only a pittance. That’s pretty disgusting. So many other examples to cite..

But I think I’ll focus on local and positive power because we need that as much as we can. We have the power to exert positive things in our local area, and immediate families. For example, I have been enjoying going on trash cleaning adventures with my son at the places we like to go fishing. It’s a simple act but it’s a powerful example of how we can and should be taking care of our areas and not expect somebody else to do it. We cannot live our lives expecting someone else to do something if we refuse to do it ourselves. That has limitations of course though but still. 

I think another powerful thing that we can also do as people is to not only get married to somebody but also make it work, figure out the challenges and work on being a strong couple. There are so many examples of failures these days that it’s a good thing to be able to show others, and ourselves of course, that we can make a commitment and do our best to make it a successful endeavor. Lots of caveats there as well but I think you get what I’m driving at. 

We need more positive effort for sure!

I think that the greatest and most effective power is in oneself, in self-confidence and having the will to grow, always on the trend of positive actions and attitudes. If you believe in yourself above all things you can go very far.

There are so many faces of power abuse, and honestly it's so easy to abuse, even remotely and all around, its effects are diverse. Everyone's guilty in one way or the other, and I want to even bring it closer to us in something as 'simple' as family life, the way we treat our spouses, our children, especially our children. You exercise power over them, which sometimes could prove to be detrimental, what of times when we forced our Will on them, wielding the big stick of  'parenthood', just to make them succumb to us?
I wanted to be a journalist, daddy says 'no, I want you to be a Medical Doctor' and I ended up as a drop out because I wasn't happy and fulfilled in that field. Daddy was adamant and I was too.
Fortunately, I ended up with a Bsc in Microbiology, but more in love with letters than microorganisms 😏
Better a Microbiologist than a university drop out, thanks to an Uncle.
Sorry I hope I'm not boring you with this long post.

As you say Power is something that has many faces. Personally I have experienced the Covid years as the embodiment of despotic rule and have felt absolute powerlessness in the face of tyranny. It has also been an opportunity to not allow my moods to be dependent on a tyrant, which has taken a lot of effort and time. I can now say that I am stronger than I was four years ago. Thank you very much for inviting me to express what I feel now when I hear or read the word Power. A very big greeting

I believe power is a complex concept with different meanings for each individual. For me, it represents having control over one's own life and choices, and the ability to empower others to reach their full potential

Power could be describe in so many terms

I am only interested in having two kinds of power. 

1 - The power to dominate my mind.
2 - That the people who are by my side, no matter what time, feel safe and joyful.

Whenever I think of defining power, I think the popular quote of "Knowledge is Power" explains it well. Power is too general, and can be used in a lot of things. You mentioned governments/groups, which can mean power to control others. You mentioned teachers, which has the power to educate, inform, improve others. I think having the Knowledge to do whatever that is, makes them powerful. People can't teach something they don't know. People won't follow you if you don't know what you're doing. Even going literal, a weightlifter can't get powerful enough without knowledge of diet and exercise, as well as the skill and ability needed there. Without that knowledge they can injure themselves, or not get the good results.
