I don't like to ask for help, but it is often needed. And I love to help as much as I can and I know how to do or just with words and if something is not there I investigate it to give more support to those who ask me for it.

The satisfaction in helping is very great.

Yes, I have needed help and I have been given it, both when I was a child and lately. Especially in very difficult situations and to feel that someone is thinking of you is beautiful.

A lovely story of people helping people; there should be more of this and less greed, ego and selfishness. The world would be a better place if we all acted in this manner. I like to help others also and get so much back from doing so; not maybe physically but emotionally.

It depends, I am in the service industry I guess, so I get to see both sides of helping others. I'm a form believer in the bucket system. My wife taught me that there are bucket dippers and bucket fillers. If everyone else is dipping into your bucket and no one is filling it you will eventually end up empty. That's how I feel sometimes. I don't mind helping people, but sometimes they just take and take and take. On the other subject, my sister is like the people you talked about. Super book smart, but not very street smart.

So you were the one who got put up to liberating the sweets?  I was the oldest but my brothers were never particularly inclined to go along with something like that.  At least not for me.

You ever read any Ayn Rand?  I tend to be the lend a hand sort but reading her *Atlas Shrugged* and *The Fountainhead* caused me to reframe how I approach it.  I help people because I want to, because I can and am agnostic towards the results or value that might be derived from it.

As for me, I have good craft hands, although for the last 15 years I have not used them to their full potential for mastering, I have pressed a little on mental work as well. 
As a skilled craftsman, I was engaged in painting, assembling (making) kitchen furniture, wardrobes and various cabinets, installing parquet and laminate, installing facades... 
As a skilled friend, I was often called upon to provide assistance. 
But over time, individuals have taught me to pull back a little. 
It is not possible to work full time at work and spend free time helping. 
OK sometimes, but... 
I was helping a friend install paneling in his terrace. a whole day of work, I was too tired after that day, but also happy that the work was done and that it turned out nice. 
But, after a few months, when I asked for help from that same friend, in a much shorter time (loading some material, an hour's work) he made up an excuse and cut me off... 
So yes, I am a man who likes to help, but I choose who it will be...

PS. Greetings to your friends, my neighbors. I am familiar with such mindsets. They know how the most advanced system works, but they don't know how to change a light bulb 😀

Hi Galen, I will be brief this time. I usually help people and, of course, it's a habit learned in my family. Only two conditions have to be met: that it is asked for, I don't like to help if I am not asked, and that I am able to do it at that moment. A hug

I've been always more a help giver than asker, despite I've needed sometimes to ask for help, no shame on it, most of the times I needed help on some technical issues the positive response of a friend also gave me a chance to learn and gain capability to do it myself later under distance supervision till I got it controlled completely, but what I enjoy the most is helping those in need, friends or not,...it makes me feel very well, useful, good person,... I don't know...it's like a contribution to goodness or happiness, knowing what's to be in in despaired need makes one to value better when someone else's in the same situation and what it means to get some help. I find it very difficult to ask for help for myself. However, I am able to ask for help for someone else and I even stop doing my own things to help someone else myself. 
When I feel that I have been helpful in some way I find it very satisfying and feel that I lived a meaningful day.

Greetings, generosity, the service of being able to help others are gifts, that although we want to stop doing we can not, it is as if we carry it in our blood. It is beautiful when you are like that, not everyone has them and many times they are criticized by others, because they take it as if they were fools, I say this from experience, for example in my case I do not know yours, once they asked for collaboration in the foundation where I am a member in view that no one raised their hands I offered myself, immediately other people told me that I was dumb and even jaletis, I'm just a person who I like to serve others, without expecting anything in return.

I do like helping others if I can, but I won't go out of my way to do so (I'll help those in front of me or within my vicinity, but I won't join outreach or charity events). I have received help as well, and am happy to accept them, but most of the time, I like to work on things by myself. It is nice to do my own research, try it out myself, make mistakes, and think of ways to improve.

As always, reading your posts I find something new that unites us, I too worked in the real estate field in my first working years!

However, I believe that helping people is right and rewarding, if you can make yourself useful, why not do it?
I too have received help and kindness in the past and it's nice to see that there are those who are willing to give you a hand, it gives you a wonderful feeling, I confess that I can't explain it in words but you feel good knowing that there are those who are interested in you.

I'm among those who have received support from acquaintances, especially when I was in a tough spot. But when I have extra, I'm not hesitant to assist others I know are also in need. There's a common saying that giving is more fulfilling than receiving. True, it really feels good to receive blessings from others, especially when you're truly in need.But it's a different feeling when you're the one helping others. Just seeing the big smiles on their faces lets you know you did the right thing. Even if it's just in a simple way, but seeing how happy they are with what you've done brings unmatched joy. Even in simple ways, we can demonstrate that humanity still thrives. What use are material possessions if we can't take them to our graves, right? It's better to give or share with others who truly need it, especially when we have more than enough. As they say, those who ask for nothing in return are the ones most blessed by our Lord. So, thank you for your kind heart , may the Lord reward your goodness.

I like to help a lot more than they help me. I like to help and reach out to people. 
It's hard for me to ask for help, but if I have to receive it, I do.
In your case and what you tell about the couple of university professors, it seems to me that your intelligence shows because they came to you to help them because they were sure of your professional management.
