<center></center> <center>*Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.*</center> <center>**- Earl Nightingale -**</center> <div class="text-justify"> *** *** I was thinking about time today, mainly because I was in a situation in which I had more things to accomplish than the time I needed to accomplish those things. It's a situation that always makes me feel motivated to push on and achieve but also a little pressured which is probably a good mix I guess as one feeds the other and with the right attitudes and effort things progress. But not always. Today much was left undone despite a 14 hour working day and everything left incomplete will need to be done tomorrow along with tomorrows' work as well - it's commonplace for when I work away because the organisation I work for tries to cram as much into my schedule as possible considering the cost they incur by sending me out to work away - they want value for money and I don't blame them. I'll admit to preferring all my work is complete at the end of my working day so I can draw a line underneath it and feel satisfied it is complete (and a job well done) without having residual work left over for the next day...today I was not able to do that so I've got an early morning tomorrow and another late night I presume; it never sits well with me to have work left over that I simply couldn't find the time to complete. Anyway, it made me think of time and how effectively or inefficiently it's used and I thought I'd ask some questions of you folks as follows. *** What percentage of your time is productive and unproductive - I mean your waking hours over a week-lone period. Also, what do you have in place to find greater productivity and efficiency and and how do you keep yourself on track to ensure you complete your tasks and responsibilities in the allotted time. How does time-pressure make you feel and how do you manage it mentally and emotionally? *** Comment below on these things or anything in general should you like to. </div> *** *** *Design and create your ideal life, tomorrow isn't promised* - galenkp [Original and AI free] Image(s) in this post are my own

Earl Nightingale must not have had ADHD otherwise he would recognize how counter to our nature that statement is! :) I find that when I have a ton of stuff to do that is "mine", I can usually handle it pretty well. However, if you throw in a couple things that are for someone else, the pressure becomes pretty intense and it almost works against my ability to accomplish it all. The idea of letting someone else down weighs heavy on me.

Yeah, there's some who handle pressure much better than others and some who handle it well in some aspects of their life and not others. It's a personality thing but also something that one learns, or not. Then, there's people who have conditions they manage which trip them up sometimes and that's ok too.

I am definitely in the second category, but I also don't like feeling like my time isn't my own. It's one thing when I pile a lot of stuff on my plate, but another thing when someone else puts a lot of stuff on my plate. It's easier for me to be motivated to get it done in the former case.

It's not really about time that I want to interact. But rather, the objects that mark time. I'm passionate about watches. I have a saying: a person reveals themselves through the watch they wear. Well, you've already increased your rating by 5 points π€ Aside from the brand, it doesn't matter in this case, the watch you're wearing perfectly defines your essence: elegance and assertiveness.

I have many watches, some of which I've photographed and used in posts before. This one I purchased in Milan, Italy for a couple of reasons including its simplicity and style. Thanks for your comments.

on normal week life, i gotta be extremely efficent with time management, get ready to wake up the kid and take care by a certain time, get dressed by an other, exit house by an other, it's all marked in my mind... the same when it's sleep time, he's little so gotta be at bed by a certain time... clock decides most of my life... however when it's work time it's different, i dont really have daily tasks, i have an amount of X days to end a task, most of the times they are even too many and i already know when im going to finish, so i manage time how i like... under time pressure i get nervous and tend to make mistakes or forgetting things because of the hurry, like when we were late and i forgot the train tickets and had 7 minutes to go back home and back to the station (i managed to do it tough)

I think the key message I get here is that you know how to manage your time effectively and adjust depending on what tasks or activities need doing at any given point. Well done.

Indeed Time management is extremely important because time, once lost, canβt be regained. Thatβs why I always make an effort to use it wisely. Before I start my day, I take a moment to plan ahead I think about what needs to be done and what should be prioritized. This helps me stay organized, focused, and productive throughout the day. By doing so, I avoid wasting time and make sure that each moment counts.

Oh man, I am a time-management demon. I try to arrange takes to complete in the most ideal order of execution so that things flow smoothly. Even things like when sorting the laundry. The sorting is always done in the bedroom, because that is where most of the laundry will go away to, but when I am emptying the dryer, if there's a kitchen towel, it will stay in the dryer. On the way back to the living room, I'll grab the kitchen towel from the laundry and put it back in the kitchen draw. When I empty the dishwasher, I collect all the forks, all the knifes and spoons. Into the drying rack they go. But I put them all in the same compartment in the drying rack, so that when they go back in the draw, I grab one pile and put that pile back into the corresponding draw compartment. I use the Woolworths mobile app to make my shopping lists, becuase it gives me an aisle layout for every item on my list, and I waste no fkn time going from aisle to aisle. I did a $400 grocery shop yesterday, door to door, in 20 minutes, and the drive there and back is 6 mins. :P Spent more time chatting to the check out chick than I did wandering around the store. I fkn MOVE in the store, I'm on a mission. So uh, yeah. I manage my time and I try to get things done as efficiently as possible.

I'm pretty much the same, very organised and time-efficient, and have been for a long time; it comes from necessity I guess but also habit from back as a kid. This doesn't mean I don't have down time and less structured time and activities but I need to be effective in my activities and actions to make sure I can get it all done. I actually don't understand why people don't work towards this more effectively as it makes life so much easier; laziness is one of the reasons I guess.

Hmm this is indeed an interesting question to reflect on. I am not sure how actually we should define productive vs unproductive. For me, the way I do it is to allocate a list of tasks that I intend to complete within the day (rather than pre-allocate a specific time period), and if I complete them early, I just get more free time to do whatever I want.

I think the ways to define or measure productive and non-productive depend on the situation/task, desired results, amount of input a person or team has upon the activities and result, time-line, effect of external influences/forces and other such things. It's different from business to personal and specific.

The topic you propose is interesting. Even more so given that I currently believe that procrastination is too prevalent. In my case, I try to plan my time, although I admit that sometimes I waste too much time on things that aren't really productive, like watching TV shows, for example. Under pressure, it's curious how I can perform better. I still have a lot to improve to achieve more efficient use of time, but I'll try to improve!

As a recovering procrastinator (you never fully recover!π) I know how busy any given day can be because of necessary tasks that were kicked ahead to today. Definitely causes stress and tiring anxiety knowing the could have already been done and that there will always be extra things that will pop up on every given day. I try not to think about peak productivity vs not really productive time in a day. I have room to complete my checklist and do things like take time to walk around the garden and engage/curate on hive for example. A good balance. Plus, if tasks slip, it doesnβt jack the next day because I can just hunker down a little more and forego some of the naps and distractions. That being said, as a business owner, not getting those tasks done means lower customer retention which means more time invested in sales and prospecting. I am too lazy to get results only to let them wash away and have to put the effort in again to land a client. It is funny we juggle dozens of clients and donβt have a crm system to track it all. Just a spreadsheet checklist we always have open and checkboxes to make sure we get it all done.

Checklist. Yep, I use lists all the time and am good at it, or should I say, *better at what I do because if it.* I'm not much of a procrastinator although there's times, you know, *I'm human after all,* but mostly there's no room for procrastination. I focus when and where I need to and get shit done. I think your ways are similar to my own and probably for similar reasons. I apply ownership meaning I *own* success and failure, procrastination and so on when it happens. Discipline to do what's required and when, responsibility, effort and so on...I *lift heavy shit* which means I am not afraid of effort and work, and long hours and so on. Anyway, thanks for taking the time.

Yah man always a good discussion. Neat to see similarities among the many differences from people across the world on Hive.
