#### In the beginning.....

I accidentally bought my first Bitcoin 0.5BTC and 0.45 BTC in January 2017 at the beginning of the now famous bull run which peaked in January 2018. In retrospect, that period was one of the finest moments in history to get into Bitcoin because of the about 1900% profit that followed by the end of the year. Unfortunately, I sold my Bitcoin about three months or thereabouts later because I could not at the time wrap my head around the volatility which characterizes Bitcoin. I still regret the naive decisions I made to this very moment.

Then by December of 2017, a very good friend introduced me to Steemit. I signed up and bought over $500 worth of Steem at $3.5 per coin. Unfortunately, the price of Steem crashed to about $0.5. Then I bought some more Steem at $0.5 and the price crashed even further. Most of my savings were gone and the months that followed were quite tough for me financially but I learnt quite a lot about cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology in the process.

#### Close The Door of Fiat, Open the Window Of Crypto

By January next year, it will be exactly four years since I bought my first Bitcoin and came into cryptocurrency and the use of the blockchain technology. And I would say that the greatest impact that crypto has had on my personal finance is that I now have more money in cryptocurrencies than I do, or might ever do, in my bank account, having realized the significance of holding sound money. The following are some of the ways in which cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology have Impacted my personal finance:

- **Improved Savings Culture:** I have been able to save more money in the last couple of years since I got involved with cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology than I have done in the years prior. This is because, motivated by the insatiable urge to own more crypto assets, I devote certain percentage of my income to buying cryptos.

- **Improved Living Condition:** By blogging actively on Hive and LeoFinance, two blockchain-powered platforms, I have been able to make extra income that are good enough to take care of some of my personal expenses. This has had positive impact on my living conditions.

- **Hedge Against A Collapsing Naira:** Living and working in Nigeria means that I earn my income in Naira and do my everyday transactions with it. Unfortunately, due to unsound monetary policies, the Naira is collapsing very fast against most of the foreign currencies such as the US dollars, British Pounds, and the Euro. The good news is that having my money in crypto has protected me from the onslaught of a feeble Naira.

I think that you're right about my not getting discouraged after buying Steem at the top. Over the past few years I have painstakingly learnt some lessons and I am more knowledgeable by the day. As you say, the future looks good but for those who persists.

Your first beginning or should I say journey seems to have been a little shaky with the lapses you experience with the price of steem.
But I am glad to see that it didn't make you give up on crypto because a lot of people that lost so much on steemit find it very difficult to keep up again.
Now sharing your story shows how you kept on pushing and moving even with the lapses you got from the start.
