Como les comenté en mi [publicación anterior](https://hive.blog/hive-148441/@gatubela/mi-coleccion-de-monedas-venezolanas-my-collection-of-coins-from-venezuela), la moneda oficial de Venezuela desde 1879 es el bolívar y fue establecida como tal por el presidente Antonio Guzmán Blanco, quien a su vez, en 1886 inauguró la primera casa de la moneda en el país, la Casa de la moneda de Caracas. Al poco tiempo la casa cerró sus operaciones y el gobierno nacional puso en manos de bancos extranjeros de Alemania, Inglaterra, Dinamarca y Estados Unidos, la elaboración de las monedas y los billetes del país. En 1940 y con la creación del Banco Central de Venezuela (BCV), toda el proceso de acuñación e impresión de monedas y billetes pasa a ser responsabilidad de esta institución.

Shortly after the mint closed its operations and the national government put in the hands of foreign banks from Germany, England, Denmark and the United States, the elaboration of the country's coins and bills. Los primeros billetes de Venezuela estaban elaborados con papeles de seguridad especiales hechos de fibra de algodón. Poco a poco y con el desarrollo de la tecnología se les fueron agregando otros elementos de seguridad que hacían más difícil la copia y falsificación (marcas de agua, códigos especiales, etc.).

En 1999 inicia sus operaciones la Casa de la moneda en Maracay, que actualmente es la casa oficial del Banco Central de Venezuela y donde se diseñan, crean, acuñan e imprimen las monedas y los billetes de nuestro país. Con esto se logró reducir en gran número los costos de acuñación e impresión ya que anteriormente, las monedas, eran acuñadas en la compañía numismática BARRÉ en Francia y los billetes en compañías internacionales de impresión de papel moneda.

A diferencia de las monedas, los billetes están hechos con un material más frágil y por lo tanto se deterioran con más rapidez. En lo personal me gustan más las monedas por ser más resistentes y más fáciles de conservar, sin embargo, los billetes tienen el agregado de los colores y de poder tener diseños más elaborados y detallistas gracias a su tamaño.
>Unlike coins, bills are made of a more fragile material and therefore deteriorate more quickly. Personally, I prefer coins because they are more resistant and easier to preserve, however, bills have the addition of colors and being able to have more elaborate and detailed designs thanks to their size.

El bolívar ha sufrido varias devaluaciones a lo largo de su historia y como consecuencia los billetes y las monedas se fueron sustituyendo y cambiando así que lo que por un lado se convirtió en un problema para la población y la economía, por el otro lado, transformó estos billetes en piezas de colección para los amantes de la numismática.
>The bolivar has suffered several devaluations throughout its history and as a consequence, bills and coins have been replaced and changed, so what on the one hand became a problem for the population and the economy, on the other hand, transformed these bills into collection items for lovers of numismatics.
Lamentablemente, la hiperinflación ha hecho que al bolívar se le haya tenido que eliminar 14 ceros en total en solo 13 años, así que no quise profundizar en las equivalencias de cada billete respecto al anterior para no hacer de esta publicación una compleja y aburrida clase de economía por lo que solo me enfoqué en el diseño, historia y algunos datos interesantes de cada uno.
>Unfortunately, hyperinflation has meant that the bolivar has had to remove 14 zeros in total in just 13 years, so I didn't want to delve into the equivalencies of each bill with respect to the previous one so as not to make this post a complex and boring class of economy so I only focused on the design, history and some interesting facts of each one.

**Bolívar (1879-2007)**:
En 1988, y debido a una fuerte devaluación, el valor del material de las monedas de 1 y 2 bolívares (estaban hechas de níquel), superó al valor nominal de estas por lo que empezaron a ser extraídas como contrabando para ser vendidas a países vecinos donde las fundían para usar el níquel a nivel comercial. Esto trajo como consecuencia la escasez de las monedas de 1 y 2 bolívares que eran muy utilizadas por toda la población en general. Para solucionar este problema, el Banco Central de Venezuela (BCV) puso en circulación unos pequeños billetes con esa denominación.
>**Bolivar (1879-2007)**: in 1988, and due to a strong devaluation, the material value of the 1 and 2 bolivar coins (they were made of nickel), exceeded their nominal value, so they began to be extracted as contraband to be sold to neighboring countries where they were melted down to use nickel commercially. This resulted in the scarcity of the 1 and 2 bolivar coins that were widely used by the entire population in general. To solve this problem, the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) put into circulation some small bills with that denomination.

💸 **Cincuenta bolívares:** este billete empezó a circular en 1977 y es uno de los pocos donde no aparece un prócer de la independencia, tiene el retrato de Andrés Bello, maestro de Simón Bolívar, y en el reverso, la sede del Banco Central de Venezuela.
>💸 **Fifty bolívares:** this bill began to circulate in 1977 and is one of the few where doesn't appear a hero of independence, it has the portrait of Andrés Bello, Simón Bolívar's teacher and on the back, the headquarters of the Central Bank of Venezuela.

💸 **Quinientos bolívares:** estuvo en circulación entre 1981 y 2007 y es conocido por todos como “la orquídea” por tener nuestra flor nacional en la parte posterior. Según la mayoría, es el billete más bonito que ha tenido Venezuela, cada vez que mi papá nos daba uno de estos cuando mi hermana y yo éramos pequeñas nos sentíamos ricas jejeje. Podías comprar bastantes cosas, chocolates, dulces, barajitas, chucherías, caramelos, chicles y todavía te sobraba jejeje.
>💸 **Five hundred bolivars:** it was in circulation between 1981 and 2007 and it's known to all as "the orchid" for having our national flower on the back. According to the majority, it's the most beautiful bill Venezuela has ever had, every time my dad gave us one of these when my sister and I were little we felt rich hahaha. You could buy a lot of things, chocolates, sweets, cards, trinkets, candies, chewing gum and you still had plenty to spare hahaha.

**Bolívar fuerte (2007-2018):** estos billetes se caracterizaron por retratar la fauna y flora de nuestro país, en especial la que se encuentra en peligro de extinción, y por tener un diseño con orientación vertical. Como dato curioso, en el año 2008, estos billetes ganaron el premio a mejor diseño del año en la Conferencia de Monedas y Billetes en Praga, República Checa, premio otorgado por la International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA) (Asociación Internacional de Asuntos Monetarios).
>**Bolivar Fuerte (2007-2018):** these bills were characterized by portraying the fauna and flora of our country, especially the endangered ones, and by having a vertical orientation design. As a curious fact, in 2008, these bills won the award for best design of the year at the Conference on Coins and Bills in Prague, Czech Republic, an award granted by the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA).
💸 **Dos bolívares:** de color azul, tiene a Francisco de Miranda en el anverso y unas Toninas (Inia geoffrensis) en el reverso.
>💸 **Two bolivars:** blue in color, it has Francisco de Miranda on the obverse and some Bottlenose Dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) on the reverse.

**Bolívar soberano (2018-2021):** esta reconversión del bolívar presentó nuevos personajes en el diseño de los billetes, lamentablemente y debido a la hiperinflación estos billetes solamente circularon durante dos años, teniendo que ser sustituidos nuevamente por otros de mucha mayor denominación, incluso un billete de un millón de bolívares.
>**Bolívar soberano (2018-2021):** this conversion of the bolivar presented new characters in the design of the bills, unfortunately and due to hyperinflation these bills only circulated for two years, having to be replaced again by others of much greater denomination, including a bill of one million bolivars.
💸 **Dos bolívares:** es el segundo billete venezolano con un rostro femenino, en esta ocasión aparece la heroína Josefa Camejo, en el reverso, la Cotorra Cabeciamarilla (Amazona barbadensis).
>💸**Two bolivares:** is the second Venezuelan bill with a female face, on this occasion
appears the heroine Josefa Camejo, and on the reverse, the Yellow-headed Parrot (Amazona barbadensis).

En el 2019 y gracias a sus colores y diseño fue elegido como uno de los 16 billetes más hermosos del mundo por la Sociedad Internacional de Billetes Bancarios, superando a más de 150 competidores.
>💸 **One hundred bolivars:** this colorful bill has Ezequiel Zamora and the Northern Spider Monkey (Ateles hybridus). In 2019, and thanks to its colors and design, it was chosen as one of the 16 most beautiful bills in the world by the International Banknote Society, surpassing more than 150 competitors.

El 1° de octubre del 2021 empezó a circular la nueva expresión del cono monetario, los billetes que forman parte de la misma tienen todos el mismo diseño, el rostro de Simón Bolívar en el anverso y el Arco de triunfo y la representación de la Batalla de Carabobo en el reverso, con la única diferencia en el color de cada uno de ellos dependiendo de su valor nominal. Aquí una muestra de los billetes actuales:

En mi colección faltan muchos billetes, en especial del primer bolívar que fue los que mayor duración tuvieron en circulación y que se han convertido en clásicos. Espero irlos encontrando para hacerla más interesante y completa. En cuanto a los billetes que usamos actualmente supongo que debería ir guardando algunos para tenerlos de recuerdo porque temo que la devaluación vuelva a hacer de las suyas 🥴😬☹️.
>Many bills are missing from my collection, especially of the first bolivar, which had the longest duration in circulation and which have become classics. I hope to find them to make it more interesting and complete. As for the bills that we currently use, I suppose that I should keep some to keep as a souvenir because I fear that the devaluation will do its thing again 🥴😬☹️.
