In life, if we intend to win a battle, there are two sides to check out for which are the attack and the defense. The same thing applies to your finance. You will remain where you are until you are able to understand that with finance, there is attack and defense. When you are told by successful financial people that your goal is to make money and increase your money making machines, they are telling you to put in pressure on the attack side but when someone like Warren Buffett says never lose money, then that is on the defense side. There are a lot of things on the internet about the attack side, so what about the defense side? Some of these might be obvious to you but maybe you haven't heard that obvious things are the most abused and not attended to?

The first thing I always advise people against is drinking too much alcohol or drinking alcohol at all. You see, getting rich isn't about having ideas alone but it wouldn't cut it if you cannot find a way to keep the money continually rotating around you. Drinking clouds a person's mind, affecting their sleep, and so lead to bad decision. When you drink, most decisions are emotional and illogical. In fact, normally when you drink and you  are with someone who didn't drink, that person has a competitive advantage over you. Drinking alcohol cost money and it also has a negative role to play on cognition.

Unless you are not drinking for religious or health reason, when you get to the upper echelon, you would actually have to take drinks but for now that you aren't there yet, it is just a waste of money and it will affect to ability to do things holistically especially when you are taking it all the time. The rich drink and this is usually done when deals are closed, partnerships made, and relationships strengthened but for now, that you aren't there, you need more of your dedication, hard work, and strength.

If you are a man and you want to be successful, I will advise that you try to give up women a little bit. This is difficult and women want to be spoilt, so in the case when you are not doing this right, then you will have two burdens on you which are emotional and financial burden. There is something I have noticed that the majority of the women I know prefer to be in a relationship with older men above the age of 30 because they believe the men have more stability, experience and would be able to determine his ambition.

if you are just starting, you do not need to keep up appearances because the more you try to keep up appearances the more you lose money. The truth is that nobody cares about how you are living. You do not need to impress anybody at any point in time because it is not worth it. We are all wired differently and we all love different things in our lives but in all this, never get into anything that you cannot afford because every night, you are going to look into the mirror and be unhappy that you are living this way even when you cannot keep up with it in the long run. If you want to be rich and stay rich, do not keep up with appearances.
