Forming the GEEK Token Team (Playing With the Numbers)

<p>I think I've worked out a plan to distribute all (or almost all) the GEEK tokens. On paper it seems sound but I am not an economist so I might be off by at least a little bit. The plan also relies partly on an honor system.</p>
<p>This is based on the selling price of GEEK so far historically hovering around 0.00005 STEEM; give or take around 0.00001 STEEM either way. As more GEEK is awarded for content the supply will be larger than demand so the price of GEEK will most likely decrease in the short term. As more users join steem-engine the demand for GEEK will hopefully rise again bringing the price of GEEK back up.</p>
<p>At the time of this post the @geektoken account has 23,115,000 GEEK tokens. Currently there are 400 million GEEK tokens that have not been minted and issued yet.</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>This plan involves a GEEK token team of 20 members; each member being paid one million GEEK from @geektoken for the time they will be spending distributing GEEK.</p>
<p>Each member when joining the GEEK token team will receive payment upfront.</p>
<p>400 million GEEK tokens to be given out by 20 team members means each team member would be responsible for 20 million GEEK tokens. For a little security each member will be issued 5 million GEEK tokens at a time to be given as rewards for content. When each member awards all 5 million tokens another 5 million can be issued.</p>
<p>Each item of content can be rewarded between 10000-100000 GEEK tokens based on the team member's judgement of how "geeky" the item is (basically a 1-10 scale). At a price of 0.00005 STEEM per token that means an item of content can earn 0.5-5 STEEM worth of GEEK.</p>
<p>20 million GEEK tokens rewarding 10000-100000 GEEK tokens per content item means each team member will reward anywhere from 200-2000 items of content.</p>

<p>The goal is to give away all 400 million GEEK tokens for content by the end of 2019. At the time of this posting there are 156 days left in 2019. Rounding to 150; to give out all 20 million tokens for content each team member would need to reward between 1 to 14 items per day.</p>
<p>Any GEEK tokens not issued or rewarded by the beginning of 2020 can be sent to @null.</p>
<p>As far as I can tell my plan looks theoretically possible so I now need to find the 20 team members. I know that @qwerrie has already expressed some interest and I need to double check the replies to my posts for anybody else that might have expressed an interest in being on such a team. Anybody else interested in joining the GEEK token team?</p>

Since I am already going to trust the judgement of each team member with how much to reward each post I am willing to also trust in each team member's good faith belief that the content they are rewarding is in at least some way "geeky".

One million GEEK tokens will be transferred from @geektoken as a one time payment for your work. Another five million GEEK tokens will be minted and transferred to your account for you to disburse for content rewards.

Once you have disbursed the five million tokens you can either send a memo to my @holovision steemit wallet or e-mail me davidrickman@techie.com to request more tokens for content rewards.

Here are a few things to help you with your task:

This ends on December 31, 2019. Any GEEK tokens at that time that you haven't used to reward content should be transferred to @null for burning.

The tag geektokens will be used to identify possible content for rewards but you should also be searching for geeky content without that tag.

The content to be rewarded should be in at least a small way geeky or related to geek culture. This is up to your best judgement. Each item of content gets a minimum of 10000 GEEK tokens up to a maximum of 100000 GEEK tokens (basically a scale between one to ten). This is also based on your best judgement.

When rewarding content post a reply that states:

"This content has earned some GEEK. (insert amount here) GEEK tokens has been transferred to your steem-engine.com account.

Geek Rewards (GEEK) is a steem engine token that rewards content creators for their geeky contributions to the community."

Be sure to check first that no other team members have already rewarded the content.

I would recommend transferring rewards for content using https://wallet.bloks.xyz but you are free to use steem-engine.com if that is your preferrance.

Sorry for the delay. I suggest you should leave GEEK unstaked. I've found out that clicking the diamond icon next to the token after it's created to enable staking does nothing unless 1000 ENG is paid to activate the smart contract associated with it.

No tag is strictly required. I am leaving it up to the team members to search out the content. A tag should be created to make it easier to find though. I'll put the tag in an upcoming post. Thanks for the idea.

The basic criteria is that the content is in at least some way geeky. How geeky you think the content is sets the amount you reward the content.

@geektoken - As a hodler of GEEK, I have some questions about your distribution plan.  I agree that your plan is possible, but I am bit concerned about distributing all of the tokens by the end of 2019.


1.  What prevents everyone who receives your token from immediately selling them, including team members?
2.  Are there services or products available that will accept GEEK as payment?
3.  Have you considered distributing GEEK tokens over the course of several years?
4.  Have you considered airdropping GEEK tokens to people who you currently holders, like Creative Coin Crypto?

If you still decide to move forward, I would like to join the team, but I felt it best to express these concerns first for the sake of GEEK.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for supporting GEEK.

1. No matter what system or plan I use there is nothing to stop someone from selling off GEEK tokens for short term gains. There is also nothing to stop hodling GEEK and buying even more at a price driven down by sellers. That's just how free will and markets work. A whale can have some effect on the price but 80% of the tokens that are possible haven't even be minted at the time of this writing. Each team member is paid equally so someone still has to buy a massive amount to be a whale and I am walking away from this project with only 100,000 GEEK so I am not a whale.

2. There might be an upvote bot similar to what is described in https://steempeak.com/steem-engine/@holger80/how-to-build-a-steem-engine-token-upvote-bot. I just don't have time at the moment to set such a thing up. There are a few other projects developers have been discussing on the steem-engine discord that could utilize GEEK.

3. I am currently writing the draft of an upcoming blog that should answer this question. If you still have concerns after reading the post you can reply to it after I post it either tonight or tomorrow.

4. The original GEEK airdrop was based on the PALcoin rich list directly from steem-engine.rocks. When the list was compiled and processed through the EngineAirDrop program there were over 5400 user accounts on the list and even accounts with 0 PAL were on the GEEK airdrop list.

If you are still interested in being a team member please let me know. Also feel free to ask any more questions. Again, thanks for supporting GEEK.

Something to consider IMO is a community like @pifc who is built around curating content as one of those giving out the tokens over time. We have multiple curators who are finding content on a weekly basis for the curation contest. 

I can set up a bonus entry for the curators to find a Geek Post or do a special week for it every month until distributing the tokens.
