If we don't master the ability to manipulate the cosmic bullets we are just blindfolded monkeys. We're in the longest goldilocks era in a million years. Most geologists agree we're long overdue for an ice age. An impact could make that happen overnight.  Asteroid mining is not just ''more capitalism in space bró!" it's a huge incentive for entrepreneurs and has the side benefits of potentially saving the entire biosphere and giving us rare earth metals which one day could mean we don't have to mine topsoil on Earth.
