Steemit: Why can people upvote without even clicking on the post?
A lot of people complain that a problem here on Steemit is that many curation votes happen without the voter ever reading the content they're voting on.

Couldn't this problem be solved by removing the option of voting without clicking on the content? An upvote button is available in every feed list, and voters don't ever need to click on the content in question. They can literally upvote it without knowing what it is.

http://geke.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/upvote.jpg

Is this really what we're trying to promote here?
=

The whole point of Steemit is to engage. It's a social network. We're supposed to be getting to know one another, sharing information, and forming relationships, not trying to make a fast buck clicking vote buttons on our feed lists.

At least make the voter (if they are human) scroll down to find the upvote button. It might not result in voters who actually read the content, but it certainly couldn't hurt.

@jesta ·
As a few other people have mentioned, there are reasons as to why you wouldn't want to have to click an article and scroll all the way to the bottom to vote. It's convenient having it on that page.

> The whole point of Steemit is to engage. It's a social network. We're supposed to be getting to know one another, sharing information, and forming relationships, not trying to make a fast buck clicking vote buttons on our feed lists.

Almost every social network lets you interact with the posts before you view the full content of a post. Why should steemit be any different?

> A lot of people complain that a problem here on Steemit is that many curation votes happen without the voter ever reading the content they're voting on.

I think the reason they complain is because of bots. But the thing is, bots don't visit steemit.com, they vote directly on the blockchain. That means removing the button from that page would do nothing to help the problem itself, and might just annoy someone who has a valid reason for that button to exist.

Even though I may not agree, I appreciate and encourage the conversation!

Yeah, there is also this whole thing about "Decentralized Curation Guilds", like the operator thing on Streemian. While it is cool, that my voting power is being spent on good things (I hope), when I am away from internet, it also means that those votes don't have my eyes behind them. I am somewhat torn by the implications, but I try to go and check out the stuff that my votes were cast for.

I also think this is a great idea! The users who truly care about this community understand the vision of Steemit. We want a platform where good voices are heard and rewarded and bad ideas are left as is. We also don't want a click-bait site. Nudging people to actually look at what others are producing is important for the community to be steered in the right direction.

Also... who wants to write for no audience? The entire point of us being here is so others can appreciate our creations. It's a bit rude to the author who might've spent hours on a piece. Steem is always appreciated, of course, but so is an engaging audience :)

Is there a steemit app for suggestions?

I've heard this proposed before and think it's a no-brainer. For one thing, even though I always read the posts I upvote, I sometimes like an article so much I've rushed to upvote without so much as glancing at the comments.

**More than once, I've had to remove my upvote immediately because the first comment proved it to be plagiarized content.** I don't mean cheetah suspecting, I mean someone linking to the article source in definite proof that the article was copied and pasted. Now I'm even more careful than before, but I do worry because I know there are plenty of Steemarians who admit to upvoting articles they don't read. That means they have less of an idea what they are upvoting than they might realize.

Comments are a whole other area, huh? They aren't utilized nearly as much as they probably should be. It's these comments that make this place "social." It's where we meet each other. So many people upvote my content without ever commenting. I tried asking for them to introduce themselves in the comments, but again, anybody voting from their feed would never know that. :)

@pulpably ·
I've been reaching out a lot lately, in comments, trying to get to know people. I love the quality of conversation possible in a place where you give someone a boost every time you comment. It disincentivizes flame wars and recognizes the value of posts that spark conversation.

However, I just lost it reading some of the comments on @willimbanks most recent post about bots. Some people here seem to think the most awesome way to treat Steemit is to abuse it and are applauding and Godblessing @msgivings for getting away with it. It seems there is a wide array of opinions about what Steemit can survive becoming. It seems every other week my confidence in the community is shaken because of people who see no value in human connectivity and are willing to totaly undermine what I see as possible here.

And yet, that's opening my mind and introducing me to a bigger pond than I've wanted to be aware of. I'm benefitting from even the ugliest parts of Steemit. If only my heart didn't seem to be at stake... Price of admittance to anything worth doing, I suppose. ;)

I often open 20 to 30 posts at a time as my reading queue. If I know and trust the content of the poster, I will upvote it as I'm opening the post as it may be an hour or more before I come back to it.
