My Entry to the Shadowhunters Contest #154

Today I bring you a papaya plant, it’s planted in a pot. It’s still small but the flower buds are sprouting from the sides of its leaves. This is a test that I am doing because I usually plant them on the ground, but this time I decided to leave a plant in the pot to see how it develops. As you can see, he is doing well. It’s already less than 1 m tall and begins to give its flowers.

I put some organic compost prepared with abundant soil on the substrate with some dry logs that I found from another plant. I prepare this substrate for my plants myself.

Don't think it was easy. For some years I have been studying the characteristics for the substrates of some plants, both fruit and ornamental plants and my cacti, so I spent many hours a day reading the characteristics of the soils and taking notes to later mix it. Over time I also studied at what proportion I should mix the different types of soil to make a good substrate and here you have me preparing my pot with a good substrate with adequate drainage and a seed of California papaya or red papaya.

About a week ago I fertilized all my potted plants with a liquid organic fertilizer that I prepared with banana shells. They have enough phosphorus to nourish the plant and induce its flowering. Here’s the result, today I realize that this little papaya plant already has its first flowers. I must wait to see if they, the flowers, will grow properly in their pot.

I am waiting for all those plants to give me potted fruit, Then I will post when fruiting works for me. At least this one plant is blooming, I am missing the other potted plants.
