I think the spirit of ubuntu is needed, not just in African nations, but worldwide.  We are becoming more and more divided rather than realizing that we are actually all one human family.  One thing I like about Hive is that it allows us to read the daily thoughts and ideas of individual people, regardless of where they live and we live.  We see photos of each others' lives.  Maybe we begin to realize that we are much more similar than we suspected. 

Thank you for this excellent post.  I had heard of ubuntu, but you captured the essence of it in a way I had not quite grasped previously.

Thank you for sharing. I was familiar with Ubuntu only in that it was a version of the Linux Operating System. I was not aware of what the name meant or where it originated from. How wonderful to have this little piece of trivia information now.

Africa is not alone in its loss of Ubuntu as @harlowjourney points out in his comment. I see this in other societies as well.

This sounds similar to the teaching of Christ.

Jesus made sure to provide for his Mother at his execution and called John to be Mary's son in his stead.   The moral thread of all nations which devalue family unity over individuality drag nations to destruction.  I pray for America which has bought the lie.
