Alder - my phytotherapeutic experience

Good morning everyone, today I would like to share with you my personal experience in using alder as a phytotherapeutic remedy.

Description: deciduous tree.

Minimum cultivation temperature: -20 °C.

Balsamic period: July.

Toxicity: low, may cause gastrointestinal disorders.

Do not take Alnus glutinosa supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding, always consult a doctor before taking phytotherapeutic preparations based on this plant.

Beneficial properties: antidiarrheal and digestive.

Active ingredients: tannins, alnulin and emodin.

PREPARATIONS

Infusion: prepared with 15 g of fresh leaves per 100 ml of water for the antidiarrheal function.

Bud extract: prepared with 12.5 g of fresh buds, macerated for 21 days in 100 ml of glycerine solution (50 ml of glycerol, 35 ml of 96° alcohol and 15 ml of water). The filtrate can be stored for 3 years, 60 drops per day for digestive function.

NOTES

The alder is a plant that requires constant humidity and for this reason it is able to consolidate humid territories and river banks. Furthermore, like legumes, it enriches the soil with nitrogen and other organic substances thanks to the symbiosis of its roots with prokaryotic organisms of the Frankia genus.

Given the resistance of its wood to water, it was widely used for the construction of Venice.

Descrizione: albero deciduo.

Temperatura minima di coltivazione: -20 °C.

Periodo balsamico: luglio.

Tossicità: bassa, può causare disturbi gastrointestinali.  
Non assumere integratori di Alnus glutinosa in gravidanza e allattamento, consultare sempre un medico prima di assumere preparati fitoterapici a base di questa pianta.

Proprietà benefiche: antidiarroico e digestivo.

Principi attivi: tannini, alnulina ed emodina.

PREPARAZIONI

Infuso: preparato con 15 g di foglie fresche per 100 ml di acqua per la funzione antidiarroica.

Gemmoderivato: preparato con 12,5 g di gemme fresche, fatte macerare per 21 giorni in 100 ml di soluzione glicerica (50 ml di glicerolo, 35 ml di alcol 96° e 15 ml di acqua). La conservazione del filtrato è pari a 3 anni, 60 gocce al giorno per la funzione digestiva.

NOTE

L‘ontano è una pianta che richiede costante presenza di umidità e per questo riesce a consolidare territori umidi e rive di fiumi. Inoltre, al pari delle leguminose, arricchisce il terreno di azoto e altre sostanze organiche grazie alla simbiosi delle sue radici con organismi procarioti del genere Frankia.
 
Data la resistenza del suo legno all‘acqua, è stato molto utilizzato per la costruzione di Venezia.
