<p>Lorraine booked the hotel room for two weeks. During that time she hoped to get closure on whatever was holding her back. She phoned Alicia to let her know that she landed safely and sent a message to each of her kids to let them know that she was traveling, and she would be out of reach. She felt a bit tired after the long flight, but decided to go for a walk instead of resting. If she slept now, she would not sleep a wink tonight. &nbsp;</p>
<p>She put on an ugly beige jacket she always brought with her and put on her dark glasses to make it more difficult for anyone to recognize her. She imagined that they would have a field trip when they eventually recognized her, but she didn't really care. She was used to paparazzi following her and it didn't even bother her anymore.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She walked out of the hotel and disappeared between a crowd of people. She tried to stay as close to them as possible to make it more difficult to be recognized, and she kept her head down. &nbsp;This was a trick she learned long ago. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Within minutes she was in the busiest street in Paris and no one seemed to notice her. She started to feel more relaxed and walked briskly towards the Louvre Museum. She wanted to spend the afternoon there before going back to the hotel for dinner.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It has never really bothered her to travel alone, and she enjoyed spending time with herself, but today she wanted to be between people. She wanted to feel the vibe. &nbsp;She decided to take a guided tour through the museum and three hours later, they were finished, and she felt totally exhausted.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She started to feel a bit faint when she walked out of the museum, and took a seat on a bench outside. She realized that she hasn't eaten anything and checked the time. It was just after five o clock &nbsp;and too early for dinner, but she had to eat something to prevent herself from starving and decided to grab something on her way back to the hotel.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She took a deep breathe and then slowly walked down the steps careful not to fall down. She wanted to walk back through the park and had to cross the street to get there. She looked both ways, and when she was sure it was safe to cross, she quickly walked across the road but she must have misjudged herself and didn't see a car coming from her left side.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It missed her with millimeters and she had to jump out of the way, and in the process twisted her ankle before landing on the side of the road. She tried to get up but couldn't stand on her foot properly and felt like a fool sitting there.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Fortunately there were not many people around and she sat there, not knowing if she must laugh or cry. What a way to start her time in Paris. She took out her cell phone to phone the hotel to send their driver to come fetch her, but was just about to dial the number when the same car that nearly ran her over came to a screeching halt right in front of her.&nbsp;</p>
<p>A man in his forties, &nbsp;jumped out of the car and came running to help her.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Mademoiselle, Je suis tellement désolé, je ne t'ai pas vu!"</em></p>
<p><em>"Je vais bien...." </em>she<em> </em>answered in perfect French as if she spoke the language every day. She used to be fluent when she lived here before, but never spoke it after she left.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He assisted her when she stood up and he showed her to his car. She protested, but he insisted and she got into the car reluctantly. They sped off towards the hospital and a few minutes later he parked in front of the emergency room.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I can't go in here...."</em> she said in English and asked him to take her back to the hotel.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Are you American?"</em> she nodded, realizing that he had no idea who she was.</p>
<p><em>"Don't you want to have someone check out your ankle?" </em>he asked politely in fluent English.</p>
<p><em>"I will make use of the doctor at the hotel. Perhaps some ice will do the trick."</em></p>
<p>He sped off again and a few minutes later they stopped in front of the hotel. He jumped out to open the door for her and helped her towards the front elevator.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She pressed the button and the elevator moved up to the relevant floor. &nbsp;She felt quite weird with this man that nearly killed her, but she had to get to her room safely and was relieved when they finally reached the room. He helped to get her to the couch and immediately called reception for an ice-pack.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I'm sorry, I have not introduced myself, I'm Alex Du Toit, I'm sorry that we had to meet under these circumstances. Please feel free to bill me for any expenses."</em>&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I'm sure the ice will help. You don't have to wait here, I will be fine."</em></p>
<p><em>" Please there must be a way to make up for this terrible accident. Would you do me the honor to accompany me to dinner tonight?"</em> he noticed that there was no ring on her finger so he thought it was safe to ask.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Her stomach growled, and before she could stop herself she agreed.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I'll pick you up in an hour. Would that be enough time?"</em></p>
<p>She nodded and watched as he walked out the door. He still had no idea who she was and she was not going to help him. Perhaps he had never seen any of her movies?</p>
<p>The ice pack was delivered and after about twenty minutes her ankle started to feel much better. So much that she could stand on her foot without any pain. &nbsp;She took two pain tablets just in case, and then opened the tap to take a hot bath. She had her red dress steamed when she arrived that morning and when she was finally dressed, after she did her hair and make up, she looked absolutely stunning.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She decided to wear her flat shoes, because she didn't want to put her ankle under too much stress and when Alex knocked on the door fifteen minutes later she looked like a totally different person that what he saw earlier. He tried to open his mouth but couldn't, and all he could get out was:</p>
<p><em>"I'm so so so glad I did not run you over...."</em>&nbsp;</p>
