Memories of a lifetime- Chapter 4

<p>Lorraine smiled at Alex and said. <em>"I'm also glad you did not run me over."</em></p>
<p>He laughed and closed the door for her. He held his arm and she was glad that she wore flat shoes because she was nearly as tall as he was. He held his arm and together they walked to the elevator. He pressed the button and turned towards her and said:</p>
<p><em>"You look absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad I ran into you."</em></p>
<p><em>"You literally did"</em> she said and they both laughed out loud. <em>"Where are you taking me?"</em></p>
<p><em>"I booked us a table at Epicure if that's ok?"</em></p>
<p>She nodded and got into the elevator. &nbsp;He pressed the button for the ground floor and they rode down in silence.</p>
<p>When they reached the desired floor he waited for her to walk before him, and he held his arm for her again. She took his arm and walked towards the entrance of the hotel. &nbsp;Someone must have tipped off the press, because when they stepped foot outside they were blinded with cameras and lights, and it felt like she was at the Oscars for a minute.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Alex pulled her back inside and looked very surprised.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"We are not going back out there. Would you mind having dinner here at the Ritz?"&nbsp;</em></p>
<p>Lorraine shook her head and turned towards the dining room. Alex looked completely puzzled and still did not have any idea who she was, or even that she was a celebrity.</p>
<p>The maitre de from the restaurant smiled as soon as he saw her.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Miss Johnson, we are so glad you decided to join us tonight. &nbsp;We have your table ready, would you follow me please?"</em></p>
<p>He seemed to ignore Alex totally, and although he felt a bit left out, he followed them to a corner table reserved especially for celebrity guests. People stared at them when they walked down the path and Alex started to feel self conscious, but Lorraine kept her head high and smiled at everyone.&nbsp;</p>
<p>They sat down and Lorraine ordered a salad immediately. &nbsp;She was absolutely starving and the pain tablets had kicked in, and she felt a bit shaky. &nbsp;Alex also ordered a starter and some wine, and within minutes they were all set up ready to start their evening.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Lorraine dug into her salad immediately when it arrived, and apologized profusely with the excuse that she hasn't even all day. Alex poured some wine and watched as she devoured the salad. &nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I'm glad to see that you are enjoying your salad"</em> he said with a big smile on his face.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I'm so hungry. I was about to get something to eat when the accident happened, and it seemed like a waste of time to eat anything after you invited me to dinner. Tell me more about yourself Alex." </em>she said after taking another bite of lettuce.</p>
<p><em>"There is not much to tell. I was born and raised in South Africa, and I moved to Paris about sixteen years ago. I own an art gallery here, and I've lived here ever since. I've never been married, but I have an eighteen year old daughter."</em></p>
<p>Lorraine put down her knife and fork after completing her salad and pushed the plate to the side.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I absolutely love art galleries. Would you show me your gallery sometime?"</em></p>
<p><em>" I could, but I specialize in African art. Not everyone's cup of tea."</em></p>
<p><em>"I'm sure that I will like it."&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em>"Then I would love to show it to you sometime." </em>he topped up her glass with more wine and<em> </em>she took a sip.</p>
<p><em>"Do you want to tell me more about yourself Lorraine?"</em></p>
<p>She laughed &nbsp;<em>"Not really. I'm sure you've read all about me in the tabloids."</em></p>
<p><em>"Well, that's the thing. I don't read magazines, and I don't watch movies. I'm more of a book person if you know what I mean."</em></p>
<p>She laughed and then told him all about her acting career, the movies she made, and then spoke about her marriage. It felt wonderful to talk to someone that had no interest in her as a celebrity. It felt so easy to talk to him. Alex seemed totally amazed and listened to her attentively.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"My daughter is going to freak out when she hears that I had dinner with you. I'm sorry I did not recognize you sooner..." </em>Lorraine smiled at him.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"I would love to meet her sometime. Does she live with you?"</em></p>
<p><em>"Unfortunately not. She lives with her mother in South Africa, but I see her often when I fly over to buy art."</em></p>
<p><em>"That's a pity. I'm sure she would love living here."</em></p>
<p><em>"I'm sure she would, but her mother is quite a difficult person. We are discussing bringing her over in December after their schools close. She will &nbsp;be finished with high school, and I would love for her to take a year off before studying. I want her to live here for a year or two."</em></p>
<p>They talked for hours and didn't realize that it was nearly eleven o clock. They had finished two bottles of wine, and they had an extraordinary dinner.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Both Lorraine and Alex felt totally relaxed with each other and they were sad that the night was over. He paid the bill, and walked her up to her room.&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>"Would you like to come in for a night cap?" </em>Neither of them wanted the night to end.<em>&nbsp;</em></p>
<p>Alex gladly accepted and it was nearly two o clock when he left her room. They were thoroughly enjoying each other's company, and it felt as if they had known each other for many years. Alex almost felt sad leaving her, but he had to get some sleep and she did too. He promised to pick her up in the morning just after ten, to take her to the gallery.&nbsp;</p>
<p>They decided that it would be best for him to pick her up at the back of the Ritz so that they would not raise suspicion. If they were to be friends, they did not need to have anyone interfere with their friendship and the further they could stay away from the newspapers the better.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Lorraine closed the door and felt weird when he left. She really liked him, and thoroughly enjoyed his company. She felt a bit scared because of the amount of attraction she felt towards him, and she has never met anyone that was not totally obsessed with her celebrity status. He seemed like a down to earth person, and he seemed to respect her privacy. <em>Perhaps he was just what she needed....</em></p>
<p>Alex smiled when he got to his car. He really liked Lorraine and even though he did not realize it in the beginning he couldn't believe that he went on a date with a movie star. It was a whole new world for him to enter, and he would love to become part of her life. He hasn't been in a serious relationship in all these years, and somehow he felt like it was fate that brought them together. He couldn't wait to show her the gallery tomorrow and he couldn't wait to tell Caroline that he went on a date with her idol.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Lorraine took off her make up and stood in the bathroom combing her hair before going to bed. She had the weirdest feeling and somehow had exactly the same feeling that Alex had.&nbsp;</p>
<p>She was meant to be in Paris, and fate sometimes had a weird way of bringing people together. They just had to wait and see what was in store for them.</p>

Dang @giantbear. That is one captivating piece of literature from beginning to end. It sure makes me wonder if it has any similarities to real life circumstances. He doesn't even know who the movie star is, he he. Love it. :)

Oh, wow - this is awesome! Are you writing the chapters as you post them, or is this a finished book already? Great dialog and it sounds like they'll end up as more than friends by the end of the story. :)
