He lived on the verge of the desert that was once a beautiful area full of trees, plants and animals. Most of the vegetation had been wiped out by the extreme heatwaves from the sun and you were lucky if you saw any living animal alive in this area. Jack was somewhat of a loner and he didn’t like the city, but this was the only place where he could keep an eye over Lila.</p> <p>Nothing was like it was before. Technology had completely taken over and most of the world was gone forever. Jack hated crowded places and it always felt as if someone was strapping him in whenever he had to go into the city. He had so many bad memories here, but even after all his travels he had to come back here. This was where Lila was and he just couldn’t stay away. </p> <p>The bright sun reflected on the mirror next to the bed, and he closed the torn curtains so he could sleep again. He had way too much to drink the previous night but he was not in a hurry to go anywhere. Most people that met Jack, thought he was a selfish bastard, but the very few that were close to him thought of him as a saint. </p> <p>Lila understood him, sometimes better than he understood himself, and Jack would go out of his way to save everything and everyone. He was about to turn around to go back to sleep when he heard something outside. He grabbed his protective sunglasses and moved away the curtain to see who was disturbing his peace. </p> <p>As he suspected it was Lila. His dearest Lila. His one true love, but he could not pursue a relationship with her. It was too dangerous and it was against the law. Jack has tried to stay away from her but it was impossible. Lila haunted him in his sleep and even though he knew there could be nothing between them he still had to protect her. </p> <p>Lila knew that Jack loved her in his own way and that he would protect her with his life. Today she needed help, and Jack was the only person other than her parents here on earth that she completely trusted. </p> <p>Jack took a deep breath before flinging the door open. Seeing her made him more anxious than it should and he tried to be as calm as possible. </p> <p>“What do you want Lila?” </p> <p> “Geez Jack, do you know what it smells like in here? It smells worse than a brewery. You definitely need a shower and by the look of this place, it needs some cleaning too. </p> <p>“Yap yap….You leave my stuff alone Lila. You shouldn’t be bothered with the way I live.”</p> <p>Jack grabbed her by the arm to pull her onto his bed. He was literally playing with fire. Lila felt that familiar feeling stir up in her midst and pushed him away. </p> <p>“I’m in trouble Jack. Stop fooling around and listen to me.” </p> <p>They looked at each other with unstable feelings. Jack shook his head and sat up.
