He fell asleep on the couch and went to bed only in the early hours of the morning. He felt tired, but he had work to do. He lay still for a minute as if trying to postpone the day, but got up a minute later to jump in the shower. </p> <p>He was out of the house in twenty minutes. He drove straight to the office, and as usual he was the first one there. He still had no idea where to start looking and planned to interview the families of the deceased girls today. It was always hard to talk to the victim's families and he wished that he had more to tell them, but he had absolutely nothing. </p> <p>He made the first call and made an appointment with the first victim's parents. They were very open to meet with him. It's been two months since their daughter was killed, and they would grab at any opportunity to help him out. They wanted closure, and he would give anything to give it to them. </p> <p>They could only meet him in an hour, so he stopped by the cafe to have a quick coffee and something to eat. He left so early this morning that he forgot to eat. He sat in the corner in his usual spot to have a good view. Even thought he did not trust people he still enjoyed watching people. </p> <p>The place was getting fuller by the minute and soon it was quite crowded. He started feeling uncomfortable and had to get out of there. There was a long row of people standing at the counter and he had to push past a few people to get to the door. As he walked out, he smelled the same overwhelming aftershave that he smelled the previous night. </p> <p>He made a mental note to find out what he was. It had a very distinctive clean smell, and it was definitely something that he would use himself. Maybe it would even attract some ladies. He laughed at himself. He did not have time for anyone else. His job was his life, and he made a difference. If he could just find the culprit behind these murders he might be able to go on with his life, but there was always something else or something that happened that stood in the way of his happiness. </p> <p>He drove to the parent's house, and asked the same questions he did previously. They were disappointed that there were no further developments and he drove away feeling despaired. </p> <p>He decided not to go back to the office and stopped by the mall to pick up a few things for home. He finished his grocery shopping and was on his way to a car when he walked past a shop that sold special blend perfumes. He never noticed it before, and decided to go in there to find out about the aftershave he was looking for. </p> <p>He felt out of place, and smelled a few samples. He didn't find what he was looking for and started sneezing after smelling the third one. The saleslady came to help, and handed him a tissue. He felt embarrassed, but she told him that it was normal. He felt more at ease. He explained to her exactly what he was looking for and she brought a few more samples. It was not quite what he was looking for and decided to leave it. He was just about to leave the shop when the saleslady called him back. </p> <p><em>"I think I might know what you are looking for. We have a special blend that we mix for one of our customers. Perhaps you will enjoy that?"</em></p> <p>He took the sample and smelled. It was perfect. </p> <p><em>"What a coincidence that he had to come past here today?"</em> he thought to himself, but he had the brain of a detective. To him there were no coincidences. </p> <p>He felt as if he made some kind of breakthrough, but he didn't really solve anything. He got to the car and was just about to get in when his phone rang. </p> <p>It was the police station. </p> <p><em>"John, we might have something for you. A girl just phoned in. She was quite hysterical. It seemed as if she was just attacked, but she was able to get herself out of the situation."</em></p> <p>He took down the address and drove straight to the apartment block. The police were already there, and when he walked in, the girl sat wrapped in a blanket on her bed. She was still shaking, and he introduced himself. She was too shaken up to talk much sense, but someone brought her some sugar water, and after she drank that, she seemed a bit more relaxed. </p> <p>John could swore that he faintly smelled the same aftershave, but couldn't figure out if it was because he just came from the perfume shop. The only thing he wanted from the girl was a description of the bastard that attacked her. </p> <p>He sat down on the bed next to her and she gave him a full description. He brought in a sketch artist and when he left two hours later he had a full description and a face.
