Communication is an extremely important skill. We communicate with others on a daily basis. There are people who communicate very easily with others in any situation, and then there are others who struggle to communicate. Communication in our social lives are totally different from communication in the work place even though there are some aspects that correspond.

Here are a few things to remember when we communicate with others in the workplace and in our social lives.

Listen to what others have to say. If you are a good listener, then you can be an excellent communicator.

Use the correct body language. Make proper eye contact and use a proper tone of voice. We often get into trouble not because of what we say but HOW we say it.

Be friendly, clear and speak with confidence. Make sure that you have empathy with whomever you are talking but don’t become too sympathetic unless it is a very close friend. In the work place it is important to keep a distance as friends in the workplace can influence the way you work or handle things.

When you talk to someone it is important to be open minded. You are not there to judge anyone for their actions. Always show respect towards others.

Different ways to communicate

When you actively listen to someone then you are paying close attention to what they are saying. You are not only listening but you are actually hearing them as well.

You cannot talk to everyone in the same way. You have to adapt to whoever is listening to you. Think about a class of children. You cannot communicate with them on such a high level because they will never understand what you’re trying to say. It is important to go down to their level and explain to them in a way that they will understand.

Put a smile on your face. A real smile and not a fake smile! People are more open to talk to someone that seems friendly. Smiling is the best way to show others that you care what they have to say.

When you speak to someone it is important to be confident. You don’t want to make a fool of yourself and sound like someone who doesn’t have a clue what they are talking about. Make sure that you prepare properly if you have to talk in front of a group of people. Think before you speak, because when something is said, you cannot take back your words.

Make sure to speak in a clear tone. Turn up the volume a little bit but don’t shout. People want to hear what you have to say so don’t mumble or stutter because you are not prepared.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something. ...

And while it is still alive, sick and all that it is, use the proper language,
Not the abbreviations, fancy words, etc that are replacing language that you should have learnt in school

Thanks for the post! It contains good advice on learning to communicate, and I enjoyed reading it.

I included a link to your article in my recent post, [Science and technology micro-summaries for July 10, 2019](/@remlaps-lite/science-and-technology-micro-summaries-for-july-10-2019), and set a beneficiary so that you'll receive 5% of the rewards when it closes.
