<p>I am extremely proud and grateful for the Mesopotamian' s who invented writing. &nbsp;Could you even imagine how difficult life would be if we could not write? &nbsp;No communication. Imagine drawing little pictures to try and express ourselves instead of writing words.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&nbsp;In the picture above it seems evident that they did not use any punctuation. This makes it difficult to read. &nbsp;Hence the need for punctuation. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Punctuation did not exist until the printing age. In the 3rd century BC, a librarian named Aristophanes just had enough. He was the chief of &nbsp;staff at the cities' library in Alexandria. Because there were no proper books and they had to read scrolls by the thousands, he was very frustrated to read things like.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There were also no differentiation between capital and lowercase &nbsp;letters. So Aristophanes created some rules regarding punctuation. &nbsp;<em>It must have been a journey to read a scroll and to decipher what someone was actually trying to say. </em>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although grammar, spelling and punctuation are very important tools,&nbsp;not everyone use it correctly. It is a real shame that we use so many &nbsp;abbreviations today. &nbsp;Due to the age of SMS, whats app and I believe complete laziness....people are using emoji's and abbreviations more and more to shorten their messages. &nbsp;It does make it &nbsp;easier I assume...and it is much easier to send someone a smily face instead of typing out the whole word.</p>

I love the touch of humour with the abbreviations at the end!
It bothers me as a retired teacher that the youth of today don't often write formal English. Their imaginations are being stimulated however!

I believe here [NZ] the end of school exams no longer require the student to even spell the word correctly, and also allow a lot of the abbreviations that the kids use in their phone conversations.
Could this lead to the end of the human race?
In the OLD days, a bloke would try and chat a girl, resulting, if he had been lucky, an increase in mankind.
Now, three kids sit on the same sofa, each with a phone in their hands, and text each other, and never a word is spoken.
End result? no increase in mankind,  
Just as well I will shuffle off the stage before it gets too far down that road.

You are so right.  I am so irritated with kids in my class using these abbreviations.  Apparently spelling is no longer important and they have spellcheck on their computers so why bother to think if they don't have to. I saw a very interesting video the other day.
