I think I recently commented in a review that I love movies that have as the center of the plot a robbery, some scam or something like that; in fact I'm somewhat addicted to that kind of movies because I love to get into the dynamics of the robbers while they plan how to make everything happen the way they want. However, not all that shines is gold and is that King of Thieves despite having a cast full of wonderful veterans can not stand out for absolutely anything, the film is practically a festival of insanity and bizarre moments that give laughter for how bad they are. How do you make a robbery film where the robbery is total nonsense, well the creators of this film did.

# The robbery.
#
In this film we have a group of old and retired thieves who by destiny decide to return to their bad habits and plan a huge robbery of a lot of jewelry and diamonds from one of the most famous jewelry in London, a group of old people who constitute a dysfunctional and super funny group, In short, returning to theft, our group of veteran thieves easily manage to develop a "plan" to enter the vault of jewelry and to steal most of the diamonds stored there, the elders go step by step testing the terrain and getting each of the things they need to carry out the robbery. Incredibly and against all odds the elders manage to carry out the robbery, but from there is when everything gets complicated because in their way they will have to face a police investigation that is destined to catch them.

The investigation develops quickly, because the group of veteran thieves was nothing careful executing the robbery, not to mention that they quickly begin to betray each other and that facilitates their capture. Surprisingly for a film of robberies the most entertaining part of the film is all that comes after the robbery, as we see the so absurd form in which these old people divide the prize and as distrusting some of the others they dedicate themselves to steal and hide parts of the bounty. In short as it was to be expected the elderly are captured and there comes their luck, it should be noted that this although it does not seem is a story based on real facts.

# Personal Opinion.
#
At the beginning I told you that the key to movies about robberies and scams are precisely the robberies and scams, so that the scenes are attractive, full of suspense and with well-done details; well, this movie is far from fulfilling that premise. In this film we never see the explanation of the plan, they never tell us how they get the key things to access the vault, basically it's like a spontaneous robbery perpetrated by a group of uncoordinated elders who seem to have just been lucky more than anything else. For God's sake these veteran thieves start the robbery one day and finish it the next, where the hell did they think that was possible and above that we would believe it, you can't just leave a robbery in half, drop all the tools and come back the next day with more equipment to finish the robbery, the world just doesn't work that way and least in the movies.

If to a bad recreation of a gigantic robbery we add that the group of elders seems not to take seriously the crime they are committing, without a doubt you will have a film lacking of any seriousness. The film becomes an accumulation of bad jokes seasoned with simple performances where we are given many characters but few memorable moments. From the end of the robbery the whole film is full of contradictions where the characters show their worst side, a treacherous, absurd and obsessed with money; basically the friendship between the characters is broken and everything that unites them is reduced to the money they must share.

The film is as slow as the characters, we have a lot of irregularities in the plot that do not work and make it enter into an annoying and boring rhythm, where all we have left is the longing for it to end soon. Yes, it's not all bad. Some nuances from the beginning are good but everything ends up being diluted by how the story ends.

In short, this is perhaps the first film of robberies and frauds that I didn't like, and that in fact I would never see again, I prefer to watch comic recreations of other films rather than torture me seeing how they turn a crime into an absolute garbage, it sounds hard but it is what it is, the film is full of failures that we can hardly ignore.
