______
# What Pulls You Into A Post? #
____
When you're scrolling through your feeds, what makes you stop and open a link? What draws you in to that particular post?

* Is it a _catchy_ headline and title?
* Are they a _regular_ steemian that you always like to read _what's new in their world today_?
* Is it a topic you are generally curious about?
* Is it a new topic you'd like to learn more about?
* Is it because they are a _whale_ and you're hoping to get _noticed_?
* Do you only go to _your_ feed? Or do you venture into the _new_ feed also?

**It's okay... you can be honest here.**

For me, I have certain people's pages that I tend to go to on a daily basis simply because they are consistently putting out GREAT content. I also like to veer over to the _new_ feed tab and check to see who else is out there. I generally get a mix of new steemians and veterans' posts that I may never have known about before.

Yes, everyone knows my favorite topics include:
* Homesteading
* Gardening
* DIY
* Recipes
* Healthier living
* Herbs and essential oils
* Farming & Livestock

So when I see a new post in these categories I tend to _waver_ a little and read the titles.

#
But then what?
#

https://steemitimages.com/DQmUio9anasL7NXTchZ4yL53YUaFkZm6EFXQV2GBksLQ1nA/7.gif

____
# Why UPvote? #
____

Why do I UPvote certain posts, but not others?
Well, I have a personal strategy and thinking process when it comes to UPvotes.

* Is this a quality post?
* Did the _Author_ use a personal experience to elaborate on the topic and post itself?
* Is this something I feel the author took time to research, understand and/or explain to his or her following?
* Is it a post filled with good information and taught me something new?

https://steemitimages.com/DQmUio9anasL7NXTchZ4yL53YUaFkZm6EFXQV2GBksLQ1nA/7.gif

_______
# Why Resteem? #
_____

I resteem posts when I feel this is an article full of great information that my following may be interested in. Yes, I do tend to resteem a high quantity of posts, but I also take into consideration the quality here.

Other reasons I resteem:
* Contests
* Sharing content I find interesting or unusual
* Picture tutorial posts within my realm of topic's interests
* New steemians with EXCELLENT introduceyourself posts
* Whales that offer cryptocurrency advice and steemit tips
* Fundraisers and steemains _paying it forward_
* Easy to understand steemit etiquette and advice- no matter the steemians ranking
* Great posts within my personal interest topics

https://steemitimages.com/DQmUio9anasL7NXTchZ4yL53YUaFkZm6EFXQV2GBksLQ1nA/7.gif

____
# Why Comment? #
____

What provokes me to comment?
* Being able to add depth, opinions and views to another's post
* When an _open-ended_ question is asked
* If I can add value to the original post or another steemians' comment
* Having a personal experience that enhances the point the author is trying to make
* Asking a question about something the author had in his or her post that I don't completely understand
* Is the author asking a specific question that I can answer

#
So, share your ways of determining if you UPvote, resteem or comment. Or do you do all three?
#

I tend to choose what to read by clicking on tags. Although I have resteemed a few articles, I find that it makes my own blog look cluttered.

I'd like the option to choose how my blog appears to visitors. Do they see only my original posts or do they see everything I have resteemed, as well? And they should be able to toggle between the two options to manually override my preference.

I UPvote when I find value.

I comment when I want to initiate or continue a conversation.

@coldsteem ·
Thanks for the honest introspection. I tend to comment on anything I upvote. I want the person I visited to know I actually *read* what they wrote. It was one of the things that bothered me when I first started at Steemit. Meager upvotes and very little feedback when there were votes.

I tend to scroll through my feed and read things the way you do. Topics that interest me. I also try to visit those who have shown me love. Out of mutual support more than anything.

I don't resteem. I probably should start. I have only ever resteemed a few articles. Usually ones that hit close to home for some reason.

It is interesting to read the different in approach to these topics. I guess a lot of it has to do with our experiences here.

As always, an introspective post that made me think about why *I* interact with Steemit the way I do. Thanks for sharing!

And this is your way of being a steemian...
>I don't resteem. I probably should start. I have only ever resteemed a few articles. Usually ones that hit close to home for some reason.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think we all find our _groove_ and follow our personal beliefs... so honestly, there is no right way or wrong way.

Glad I was able to give you, and hopefully others, a moment to reflect upon what steemit means to them and why they are here.

hello @goldendawne long time no "speak"

a really cool post you have there and I just had to comment...
What pulls me into a post is kind of a combo of everything you wrote except the whale thing, I have gotten over that. I will read it because I am intrigued and not because its a whale.

Then I upvote articles because I think they deserve an upvote even though now my max upvote has shot up in value a lot (might be 0,4 at 100%) so I do tend to use the sliding bar

I do not resteem mostly, I feel it clutters other peoples feed a bit so I avoid it

commenting I really like to do, and on all kinds of articles but I will rarely post some really short comments like "nice post" I will comment if i feel I will add something to a discussion (again mostly)

and I will upvote any decent comments made on my posts

HOWDY stranger!!!

>I do not resteem mostly, I feel it clutters other peoples feed a bit so I avoid it

This is a VERY valid point you have made; which is why I wish steemit devs would get a new system for us to categorize our feeds, posts and resteems. It would look less cluttered and I feel in the long run, more organized for when we try to search for an older post.

I also, UPvote decent comments within my, or others', posts when applicable.

I am doing some mentoring with newer steemians and thought I would share this (things I do personally) with all my followers.

Both of you are correct on this point. I do resteem, occasionally, but not as much as @goldendawne. A big reason for it is exactly what @felander said. The past several days, I have been unable to pay much attention to my feed because there is one person (whom I follow and like very much) that is trying to help a contest by resteeming everyones post for it. That is great and I applaud them for helping so many people. But I have been unable to find the posts of all my favorite people because my whole feed is nothing but these resteems, lol.

With that said, I do occasionally resteem, especially if it is a topic that I think helps a lot of people, like this post of @goldendawne. I am resteeming it, asap.

I used to scroll through the new feed, but I found that the content is just too random. I enjoying finding others through comments.
If I click on a post, it’s usually because I’m interested in the topic and want to see what they have to say based on the title.
I’ve been upvoting like crazy, so I have to slow down a bit until my voting power gets up. I will upvote comments on my posts and upvote content that I think is quality or taught me something new.
I try to comment as often as I can, to get noticed and to make connections with others.
I usually reserve resteeming for posts that I really really enjoyed or want to save to my page for later.

GREAT way to find new people too! I find myself doing this often too!

Yeah we can all get a little _crazy_ in the beginning with UPvoting. I think new steemians may be thinking UPvoting is equivalent to FB's _LIKE_ button.

Commenting is how I spend half my day on steemit.

@ohicklin · (edited)
Thought provoking post. Why do I do what I do?

I would have to say I do all three.

First of all I am still finding my way, but try to pay attention most to those who have supported my posts and try to support their's in return.

Second I am drawn to photography and art posts as I am more visual than verbal I think. Always have been given a mild tendency to dyslexia. Although I made it through medical school by some miracle or the grace of God , reading takes me longer than most people. I am much more of a visual learner, which is why I am drawn and do well at radiology.

Beyond that I like to explore, see what kind of creativity is out there, and I have to admit, after seeing some of the posts on advice for doing well on steemit, It does sound like paying attention to some of the big supporters spots can't hurt.

Thanks for your post. There are some good ideas there that I can try to use.

ReSteeming it.

@goldendawne ·
I am still finding my way most days too... I don't think we ever stop learning here.

>try to pay attention most to those who have supported my posts and try to support their's in return.

YES! I have found that if you comment on another's post, there is a good chance they will stop by and comment on a post of yours. Interaction and conversation can be key.

Exploring and scrolling can be fun. I have found some great people to follow and they have a plethora of useful info that I never would have seen normally.
