I took a deworming tablet just to piss off my liberal friends
Not really, but that is just the fun part of the reason why I took it.  When a person I have known for a while started talking about how she takes dewormer pills I chuckled because I thought she was joking.  Turns out she was serious and when I asked some other long-term expats about it, it turns out that they also do the same thing and have done so for a long time.  

When I asked them why they said it was just a precautionary measure because the of food handling standards being significantly lower here in SE Asia.  I had never heard of anyone doing this but I figured there was no reason to not do it, especially since it has no side effects other than maybe helping with Covid :P

I don't think I have any worms living inside of me.  I certainly hope I don't but if i do, I like knowing that they are about to face their end.  Honestly, I really wanted Ivermectin so I could get under the skin of some of my buddies who are hyper liberal and HATE Ivermectin because the TV told them to.  Unfortunately the pharmacist nearest my condo didn't have any and the joke isn't important enough to me to travel to another pharmacy.  

I suppose there isn't any good reason to not take this tablet since it was 25,000 VND which is around $1.  

My dog Nadi was looking at me while I was eating me and probably thought "hey!  Those are supposed to be for me!"

This situation has reminded me that I have not given her any anti-parasite chewables in nearly a year and I should probably get on top of that.  

I had never heard of people taking anti-parasite pills before and was kind of shocked to find out that this is so common that basically every corner pharmacy always has these in stock.  Oh well, it was $1 and it tasted like a small chocolate candy.  I haven't noticed any difference so far.  Have you ever done this?

I don't think you will notice a difference until you... you know.  I remember when our dog was a puppy and she had her first dewormer.  It was shocking just how much was in her system.  Poor thing!  I will be honest, I was shocked by your title at first too, but it does make a lot of sense.  Like your friends said, given the conditions and all, why not take that extra precaution.  I hope it all comes out okay for you! :)

yeah.  i will likely make this a monthly thing just as a precaution.  I mean I just presume there is actual medicine in the tablets but if I don't need it at least it tastes like a chocolate tablet.   

I actually had you in mind when I wrote the headline and felt kind of bad.  I honestly didn't mean to make it political.

For real?  :)  I'm really not that bad.  I will have you know there are no less than three guns in my house at this very moment.  If that doesn't scream conservative I don't know what does.  

I am fully vaxxed and proud of it, but this whole thing with the government mandating vaccinations for businesses of 100 or more employees I don't agree with. (Just to prove I am not a mindless sheep!) :)

At the end of the day, I just want us all to be decent human beings.  If someone needs help, help them. If someone is taking advantage of the help they are being given, c-ya.  I am probably quite a bit more independent than anything.  I think there is an empathy deficit in the world and if we could fix that, then a lot of the other stuff wouldn't matter quite so much.

I think one tell tale sign is when you have an itchy backside or something. Had worms many years ago when I was a kid. Not such a bad thing to do once in a while just to make sure I suppose.

I was unaware it was a real thing and my comment about pissing off my liberal friends was more of a joke than anything else although that was the reaction by some that I told about it.  

Apparently I was one of the few people that was unaware that this is something that humans should do here.  You'd think after nearly 20 years of living abroad that I would know it all but I don't!

I used to do these lengthy internal cleanses. They included some heavy fasting and a mixture of psyllium husk to remove built of crap from the body. I always ended the cleanse with a parasite focus. Not that I ever had any problems with them, it was just part of the kit. Reminds me that I haven't done one of those in a few years now.

It would probably do me a world of good to drastically alter my diet for a week or two.  I'm not really down with fasting but I think a couple of weeks of no alcohol and getting substantially more fruit and veg into the ol' body would be something my body would thank me for.

I have definitely heard of people using dewormer regularly,  especially in under developed countries... (whatever that means, exactly)

Whenever I get the thought of worms living in my body it creeps me out big time. Of course I am that way in general if you plant any kind of seed in my mind of an illness. I guess you could say I am a bit of a hypochondriac!

I guess if there are no side effects to taking it, no harm in taking it just in case!
