I, like a lot of people, have been plagued with sleeping issues for a long as I can remember. When I was in college I would take a lot of NyQuil in order to win this battle. I can assure you that I have tried it all. What works for one person does not work for another. The closest thing I have found that puts me to sleep is to put on my sound-cancelling headphones and listen to death metal of all things (what relaxes me might not relax you :P.) This happened recently (just a few days ago) when I needed to be at the local immigration office at 7am. Getting there after 7am would create a very big problem for me. At the minimum it would incorporate me spending a very long amount of time in the office because people queue up really early to get a good ticket number. The staff at the school I attend do all the paperwork for me but I physically need to be there in order to claim my own ticket. I ride a bicycle exclusively for transport and the Immigration office is on the other side of town. Therefore, I had to wake up around 5am, which is a VERY early start for me. <center> https://cdn.caffeineinformer.com/wp-content/uploads/cant-sleep.jpg [source](https://cdn.caffeineinformer.com/wp-content/uploads/cant-sleep.jpg)</center> Knowing that I had to wake up at this time seems to make it even harder for me to get to sleep possibly because I don't have faith in my alarms even though i set 2 of them (phone and an actual clock,) It is really silly for me to be worried about both of these things failing because there has only been one instance in recent memory where **either one of them** failed in many years - and at that point the other one didn't fail. So now I find myself in a situation where I actually need the sleep more than I normally would but am unable to obtain it because of that fact. What a horrible Catch 22 this is. I do eventually achieve sleep, but then it is also a very restless sleep. I likely, because of my internal worrying mechanism, never achieve the type of sleep that actually regenerates you. I will wake up plenty of times in the night and then the process starts over. Like most of the times that I have been through this scenario, the following day was just awful. The exercise or riding the 20km to Immigration gave me a brief burst of energy but then the rest of the day was a struggle. I didn't want to nap because I was looking forward to being able to get to sleep easily at a normal go-to-sleep hour. There are times when I really envy my dog because she can be playing wildly one second and then the next be sound asleep, snoring and wiggling her paws in a dream where she finally catches that cat. <center>  <sub> Does essentially nothing all day, always exhausted </sub> So what about you? Do you experience this phenomenon? It seems like most of the people I talk to this is just a regular occurrence for them. It is such a common thing for me that on the rare occassion that it doesn't happen, I am genuinely surprised.

I get this occasionally. My wife more so. Like you said, it really just has to do with not being able to shut your brain off. When I was younger I had some green methods I used to counteract this, but I don't really do that so much anymore. I just struggle through and make it the best I can. I am glad you have found something that sort of helps you get through these times. Like you said, different things work for different people...

Oh, I understand you! Sometimes the same thing happens to me when I'm in the exam period .. it's really not easy but I try to relax by thinking about soothing things. I do not know if it can help you but have you ever tried to go to a sleep clinic to control your sleep ryhtme? it might help you good luck !

That must be awful. I sometimes experience sleep disorders, but thank God, very rarely. I wake up at 3am and go to sleep again after one hour. What helps me is sage tea. I don't like sleeping pills, never taken one in my life and hope it won't be necessary for those. I hope you can find a cure, some kind of remedy because lack of sleep can make your life pretty miserable.

Oh! No! You are too hard on yourself trying make yourself gojng to sleep. I used to force myself to go to sleep at proper time but that only made it worse for me! So I give up and let it be! Thatโs when I start to sleep like a cat, interval sleeping according to the need of my body. Now I donโt have sleeping problem any more. I just donโt get upset if I could not sleep after a strong cup of Chinese tea. I just take some cumin capsules to calm the stress inside the body, so I would have a short but deep and relaxing three hours sleep! Try this local herbal capsules! They are quite well know among Thais; itโs called โkaminchan capsulesโ produced by Apai-phubate hospital in the south of Thailand! You could find this in all drug stores. Take two after dinner! This is also very good for the digestive system. Cheers.

I have exactly the same problem, I sleep a few hours, basically when I'm so tired my eyes unintentionally close, and I do not trust my ability to be awakened by alarms, if there is no one available to wake me up the problem is even greater. Even sometimes I can not sleep because I can not find a comfortable position and know where to place my hands becomes a problem. Nice dog by the way.

I have anxiety and depression and have been in a constant battle trying to get good sleeping patterns for many years - my problem is the fact that I can never wake up and sleep at regular times. Its like ". . . rage rage against the dying of the light" every night - I just don't want to go into he darkness etc., i.e. sleep. So I never really lay down and go to sleep - I just stay awake until I pass out really. Often I am unaware that I have even gone to sleep. I used to have a job where I would get an insane amount of exercise, in fact in New Zealand it was one of the most physical jobs that you could do according to government - in that job, even though I was wrecked every day I got home, I still only got 4 hours sleep each night. I eat meat myself - but this is one of the only things that helped, and that was years ago when I went onto a raw food vegan diet. I had tried everything, and then went on that - which was tough for the first week, but I will tell you what - all my anxiety went away and I slept the best I have ever in my life. It is a pity though, that I did not have the will to continue it. But I plan this week on trying it again. Lately, my sleeping has been worse than ever. Anyway, just thought I would share that you are not a lone in sleeping problems etc.,

Yeah buddy, it seems that people from all walks of life can experience this phenomenon and getting lots of physical exercise doesn't seem to do the trick (for me or you apparently). I am very unlikely to give up meat but that is an interesting solution that I have honestly never heard before.
