Geting to know "El Tepozteco"/ Conociendo "El tepozteco"
Hello #Hivers, I recently learned about the C/Travelfeed community on Hive thanks to a video published by @manuphotos on the HiveCuba channel on 3speak. In this <a href="http://(https://3speak.tv/watch?v=manuphotos/xrsnjftc)">video</a>&nbsp;they interview the creator of the TravelFeed community and I found it to be an interesting option. For some time I have been writing some posts about my visits to certain places here in Mexico but had only posted them in the HiveCuba community until now. Thanks to this video I found out that it was possible to post them in a more specialized community so I decided to give it a try and see how it goes. So here I am.

This time I would like to tell you about my recent visit to Tepoztlán, Morelos.

<center><h4>The Journey to the Town</h4></center>

I live in Mexico City, so the bus journey to Tepoztlán takes about an hour. We arrived at the Taxqueña bus station around 8 am and to our delight, we found that there was a 50% discount on the fare for students available. So we took advantage of the savings opportunity, bought our tickets, and set off on the adventure. It was a relatively short and pleasant trip.

One detail, the bus station in Tepoztlán is on the outskirts of the town, meaning you either have to pay for a taxi to the town center or take a 15-minute walk. We chose the second option, of course. Although I wonder if I would have done the same if I had known what awaited me afterward.

<center><h4>Tepoztlán, The Town</h4></center>

This is a magical town with a strong tourist vocation, one of its main attractions is the existence of pre-Columbian archaeological ruins on one of the hills overlooking the town.

This time our goal was to actually visit the temple known as "El Tepozteco." I must say, however, that the town is very beautiful and definitely deserves a trip exclusively to visit and get to know it more deeply. But as it became evident early on in our visit, it is not possible to properly visit both places in just one day. The temple visit requires a significant amount of time and energy, which prevents you from fully enjoying the charms of Tepoztlán. So I can't tell you much more about this magical town, except what has already been said, and that it offers very good and varied gastronomic and souvenir options. Ahhh, and they have exquisite coffee!

<center><figure><img alt="View of the hills where the Temple is located, from the main street of the town." src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-00-03-182-1711483788432-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>View of the hills where the Temple is located, from the main street of the town.</figcaption></center></figure></center>

<center><h4>The Ascent</h4></center>

The start of the ascent to the temple is marked by a large tree, the past goes through it, currently the tree is completely divided in two, but you can still see the scars that show that it was once a single tree. The path is very well defined and mostly consists of stairs, in total the journey is just over 2 km to the temple, but it is a difficult and steep climb, mostly with slopes of 45 degrees or even steeper in some sections. For most of the journey, the path runs through a wooded area and alongside a large mountain wall, so it is mostly shaded. Despite this, I recommend bringing plenty of water (at least 2L) and comfortable clothes and shoes.

<center><figure><img alt="View of the tree divided by the path to the Tepozteco temple" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-01-03-450-1711483788130-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>View of the tree divided by the path to the Tepozteco temple</figcaption></center></figure></center>

At the end of the journey, there is an extremely steep part, but it has metal stairs that will make the ascent much easier.

<center><figure><img alt="Final part of the Path to El Tepozteco" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-01-03-378-1711483788381-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>Final part of the Path to El Tepozteco</figcaption></center></figure></center>

Passing the metal stairs, there is access to a small plateau that leads to the temple ruins and several resting areas where you can enjoy some magnificent views.

<center><h4>The Temple</h4></center>

The temple itself is not a particularly impressive construction, it is rather small and nothing of the roof has been preserved and little of its interior. However, the perspective changes a lot when you consider the location in which it was built and the means available at the time. According to the information available on the trail, this temple dates back to the year 1200 A.D. at the height of the Mexica empire, which means that the work was done manually and without vehicles of the wheel.&nbsp;Still, it has beautiful carvings on large blocks of volcanic rock and it is impressive that it was possible to build in that place.

<center><h4>Other views</h4></center>

In my opinion the landscape views that can be appreciated are among the best rewards of the journey. You can see the whole town of Tepoztlán without any problem and in the distance you can glimpse another settlement that I couldn't verify its identity but I believe it could be Cuernavaca. The views of the forests are also lovely, of course at this time of year and taking into account the drought we have been experiencing in the last months, it lacks the lush greenery that I am accustomed to in Cuba, but the grandeur of the landscape is not affected by this. It only remains to imagine how beautiful the place would be in rainier seasons.

<center><figure><img alt="View of Tepoztlán town from the hills" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-01-03-874-1711483788195-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>View of Tepoztlán town from the hills</figcaption></center></figure></center>

<center><figure><img alt="View of the forest and hills in the path to the Teposteco temple" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-01-03-716-1711483788356-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>View of the forest and hills in the path to the Teposteco temple</figcaption></center></figure></center>

<center><h4>The descent</h4></center>

<center><figure><img alt="View of the descend fron the Tepozteco temple platou" src="https://img.travelfeed.io/gornat%2F2024-03-27-01-03-322-1711483788145-jpg" width="3120" height="4160" /><center><figcaption>View of the descend fron the Tepozteco temple platou</figcaption></center></figure></center>

<center><h4>Economic considerations</h4></center>

The trip from Mexico City can be considered sheap, in my case, I enjoyed a student discount, but even if you are not a student, you can budget around 400&nbsp;MXN (about 24 USD)&nbsp; for bus tickets. On the day of our visit (sunday), access to the temple was free of charge but on regular days the cost is 55 MXN (just above 3 USD) and you can have a meal for one person with approximately 150 to 200 MXN (between 9 and 12 USD), total cost of 600 to 700 MXN (37 to 40 USD).

En esta ocasión quisiera contarles sobre mi reciente visita a Tepoztlán, Morelos.&nbsp;

<center><h4>Otras vistas</h4></center>

Hi @gornat,
Great to see you posting to the TravelFeed community! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 5 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created [TravelFeed.com](https://travelfeed.com/?utm_source=hive_tf_tag_comment).

[TravelFeed.com](https://travelfeed.com/?utm_source=hive_tf_tag_comment) brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps, post scheduling, automated adding to Pinmapple and more. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!

Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag and the TravelFeed Hive community. But, you can log in with your Hive account on [TravelFeed.com](https://travelfeed.com/?utm_source=hive_tf_tag_comment) to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.

We would love to see you on [TravelFeed.com](https://travelfeed.com/?utm_source=hive_tf_tag_comment) soon :)
