## The Jam - *Happy Together*
## The Jam were a major band in the
mod-revival/punk rock scene in the UK in the late '70s, who are often cited as one of the most influential bands of the time. They were formed in 1972 in Surrey by Paul Weller, and over the years had a number of different members. Though musically they were part of the punk rock scene, they were different in image and message wearing matching, tailored suits, with lyrics much more similar to rock and R&B of the '60s (hence the mod-revival part of their aesthetic). By their last album, their sound had evolved quite a bit, and they were writing much more harmonically complex songs that definitely moved beyond the punk genre.

## This is the opening track on that
final full length, 1982's ***The Gift***. I have always thought that the album's cover influenced **The Police's** ***Synchronicity*** the year after; both covers feature the band members, with 3 stripes of colors, one over each member. **The Jam**'s album uses red, yellow and green, with vertical stripes, and **The Police**'s blue, red and yellow, with horizontal stripes. Let me know if you agree, I've never found any information about this, but it seems WAY too close to be a coincidence.
