## We're gonna return to the late '80s

I wasn't introduced to the band until late in my 20s, and although they only have 2 albums and 1 EP, definitely got hooked on their tunes, and revisit them often.  The group was formed in 1986 in Louisville, KY and consisted of Brian McMahan, Britt Walford, David Pajo and Ethan Buckler, though Buckler was replaced by Todd Brashear after the first year.  The members had been influenced by the <b>Minutemen</b> to try more out-there, experimental things, which led them away from the straight-forward punk rock of their high school years, and the formation of Slint.  Their debut album was produced by Steve Albini who would go on to become a production legend, though that album was more of a underground, cult hit.  Their second full length, <i>Spiderland</i>, released in 1991, was much more critically acclaimed, though the band never really had large mainstream success; in the UK, however, the album garnered the band a decently large, very dedicated cult following.  The group actually split before the album was released, though they have reunited at a few points over the years for various gigs.  This wasn't technically their final release though, with an untitled EP recorded in 1989 being released in 1994.  Today's song is from <i>Spiderland</i>, and features the band playing over an odd-meter, though it still remains a pretty heavy, groovy tune.</div>
