## Despite having been exposed to their

One day, I had to drive all over the city, and decided to go through their discovery, and found myself hooked, and now consider them one of my favorites of all time.  The band was first formed in North London in 1963 by two brothers, Ray and Dave Davies, who were the primary songwriting force behind the band, with the rest of the line-up shifting here and there over the years.  Like many bands of the time, their earliest music was very much the 'teen-pop' of the time, but they always seemed to be a little edgier than a lot of the other groups of the time. By the latter half of the '60s, they were experimenting with heavily distorted guitars and more complex song structures, which resulted in some of the most famous songs from that time period.  While I do love those tunes, when I heard their 1969 album <i>Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)</i>, I knew I found an album I'd be revisiting all the time.  It was originally written as a concept album, to be paired with a televised play of the same title, though the TV portion never wound up being produced.  The album has some of (in my opinion) their best songwriting, and some of their catchiest, most sing-along lyrics.  This song opens the album and remains (arguably) my favorite song from the band.  Whenever it comes in, I instantly find myself singing and rocking along.</div>
