Hiking a Random Mountain In Heydalur

Heydalur is actually a farm in Iceland, Westfjords but this farm is accepting guests as a side hustle. We had decided to go there and spend a night. Usually, when you are with a camper van you need to stay at designated campsites but this farm also supports you to stay in a campervan on their land for a small fee. 

This is absolutely another vibe to stay in a legit farm, there are animals and family people working. There is also a family-owned restaurant where you can eat out. I got the last salmon they caught in a nearby river the day before, oh it was so delicious. 
There is also a naturally heated outdoor pool and an indoor pool we visited later in the night. 
We watched northern lights straight from the hot pool. I just found out that I haven't posted the photos of these northern lights. For some reason, I remembered I did but that's fine, will post it soon.

Let's get to the real topic of this post. Heydalur is located in a fjord, between mountains. Since we still had daylight after our arrival and the weather was so nice and sunny we decided to hike one of the mountains.

This is a random mountain and I'm not even sure it has a name but I found something, named Grimholl. It might just be the name of the mountain range not the exact name of this hill.

There is not really a trail but something barely visible, walked in by the farm people. One of them likes to walk a dog there, here is a shot of the dog.

Farm people usually don't go much higher but of course, we did.

Some absolutely great views appeared over the surrounding areas.

Overall it was not a long way up. A bit less than 2 kilometers but it was steep. There was virtually no trail anymore and we tried to make our own. 
Since we gained in elevation, we crossed the snow line so finding a path got harder.

This is as high as we went. Almost to the top. Snow got quite steep and the freezing wind was intense.

Time to go back down. We tracked our shoe marks in the snow and used the same path. It is a bit dangerous in the snow because there can be holes under the snow cover and some small water streams.

I fully enjoyed this hike. This place definitely has a vibe I can't quite explain. If I'm going back to Iceland for the third time at some point then I would surely stay there again.
