La película **The Sisters Brothers** en realidad es una especie de homenaje al mejor cine tarantiniano, con muchos aspectos similares a **The Hateful Eight**, con una mezcla de humor e ironía al cine estilo western que tanto nos delició de jóvenes, aquellas películas que contaban la conquista del oeste americano en busca del oro y aventuras, el famoso Far West (el Lejano Oeste).
Ya desde el nombre la película y la frase que lo antecede nos una idea del sentido de la trama: Brothers by blood, Sisters by name (Hermanos por la sangre, Sisters de nombre). No es fácil titular una película con dos nombres antagónicos: Sisters y Brothers. Sin embargo el director Jacques Audiard lo logra y obtiene un más que meritorio producto.

> The film **The Sisters Brother**s is actually a kind of tribute to the best **Tarantino** cinema, with many aspects similar to **The Hateful EighT**, with a mixture of humor and irony to the western style films that delighted us so much when we were young, those films that told the conquest of the American West in search of gold and adventure, the famous Far West (the Wild West).
> Already from the name of the film and the phrase that precedes it, we get an idea of the sense of the plot: **Brothers by blood, Sisters by name**. It is not easy to title a film with two antagonistic names: Sisters and Brothers. However, director Jacques Audiard succeeds and obtains a more than meritorious product.

Oregon, 1851, en plena conquista del Oeste americano y la carrera al oro dos hermanos, Charlie y Eli Sisters, asesinos a sueldos pero cada uno con caracteres bien distintos, trabajan juntos por cuenta de un tal Coomodore quien los usa para eliminar testigos en modo rápido y eficaz.
Charlie Sisters es impulsivo, gruñón, amante del vino y las mujeres, Eli por su parte es más reflexivo y sensible.
El actual objetivo de ambos es eliminar a Hermann Warm, un químico acusado de robarle al Commodore una fórmula para encontrar el oro y detectar la pureza del mismo. Específicamente la fármula sería en grado de detectar las pepitas de oro escondidas en el lecho de los ríos. Por las dudas que ambos fallen el Commodore ha contratado también al detective privado John Morris para que siga a Warm y tenga al corriente a los hermanos Sisters. En realidad Morris planea adueñarse de la fórmula por su cuenta y obligar al químico a trabajar para él.
Morris captura a Warm y cuando decide de entregarlo a los hermanos Sisters éste le confiesa que en realidad aquellos lo van a torturar y matar y que, en camabio, si lo libera, pueden trabajar juntos. Mientras ambos viajan por San Francisco, en pleno apogeo de la búsqueda del oro, Warm le confía a Morris su deseo de crear una sociedad utópica, libre de la codicia y los defectos que afectan a otras ciudades del oeste.
Mientras tanto los Hermanos Sisters sufren todo tipo de peripecias en su recorrido poniendo a dura prueba el carácter de cada uno dee llos. un oso grizzly ataca su campamento y hiere a un caballo, Eli corre el riesgo de morir después de ser mordido en la boca por una araña venenosa, y Charlie se emborracha con demasiada frecuencia para poder seguir adelante.
A duras penas llegan a Jacksonville y en vez de encontrar al detective con el químico cautivo se dan cuenta de la traición del primero
Las discrepancias entre ambos hermanos comienzan a ser evidentes. Eli quiere retirarse pero Charlie rechaza la propuesta muy enojado
Ironía del destino ambos encuentran a Morris y Warm pero son inmediatamente atacados por otros pistoleros que conocen su plan y deben alizarse para lucar y sobrevivir. A partir de ese momento deciden trabajar todos juntos y construyen una pequeña represa en un rio para probar la fórmula y encontrar el oro.
Los golpes de escena se suceden uno detrás de otro. La fórmula si bien efectiva es muy cáustica y el brillo de las pepitas en el fondo del lecho del rio es de corta duración. En un ataque de paroxismo debido a la brevedad del efecto vierte la sustancia sin diluir sobre su mano y en el río. Al entrar en contacto con el agua la sustancia corroe severamente a Warm y Morris quien mueren ahogados mientras Eli debe amputar la mano de Charlie.
En el interim el Commodore se ha enterado del cambio de planes de sus asesinos a sueldo y manda eliminarlos. Eli protege a su hermana eliminando los sicarios y ambos vuelven a Oregón donde descubren que Commodore ha fallecido.
Poniendo fin a sus andanzas de pistoleros ambos se retiran a vivir con su madre.

> Oregon, 1851, in the midst of the conquest of the American West and the race for gold, two brothers, Charlie and Eli Sisters, hired killers but each with very different characters, work together on behalf of a certain Coomodore who uses them to eliminate witnesses quickly and efficiently.
> Charlie Sisters is impulsive, grumpy, a lover of wine and women, while Eli is more thoughtful and sensitive.
> Their current objective is to eliminate Hermann Warm, a chemist accused of stealing from the Commodore a formula for finding gold and detecting its purity. Specifically the drug would be able to detect gold nuggets hidden in river beds. Just in case both fail, the Commodore has also hired private detective John Morris to follow Warm and keep the Sisters brothers in the loop. Morris actually plans to get hold of the formula on his own and force the chemist to work for him.
> Morris captures Warm and when he decides to turn him over to the Sisters brothers, he confesses that they are actually going to torture and kill him and that, instead, if he frees him, they can work together. As the two travel through San Francisco, at the height of the gold rush, Warm confides to Morris his desire to create a utopian society, free of the greed and flaws that plague other western cities.
> Meanwhile the Sisters Brothers suffer all sorts of mishaps on their journey, testing the character of each. A grizzly bear attacks their camp and injures a horse, Eli is in danger of dying after being bitten in the mouth by a poisonous spider, and Charlie gets too drunk to keep going.
> They barely make it to Jacksonville and instead of finding the detective with the captive chemist, they realize the former's betrayal.
> Disagreements between the two brothers begin to become apparent. Eli wants to retire but Charlie angrily rejects the proposal.
> Irony of fate both find Morris and Warm but are immediately attacked by other gunmen who know their plan and must ally themselves to survive. From that moment on they decide to work together and build a small dam on a river to test the formula and find the gold.
> The scene shocks follow one after the other. The formula, although effective, is very caustic and the glow of the nuggets at the bottom of the river bed is short-lived. In a fit of paroxysm due to the brevity of the effect he pours the undiluted substance over his hand and into the river. Upon contact with the water the substance severely corrodes Warm and Morris who drown to death while Eli must amputate Charlie's hand.
> In the interim the Commodore has learned of the change of plans of his hired killers and has them eliminated. Eli protects his sister by eliminating the hit men and they both return to Oregon where they discover that Commodore is dead.
> Putting an end to their gunfighting escapades, they both retire to live with their mother.

Es evidente que el tradicional western al que estábamos habituados hasta hace algunas décadas tiene poco peso en la actualidad.
Entre los clásicos puros con Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Eli Wallach y otros tantos excelentes actores, pasando los western spaghetti de Sergio Leone con la inolvidable másica de Ennio Morricone ha ido cobrando actualidad en los últimos años una especie de western no convencional, el primero de los cuáles en experimentar este nuevo estilo fue Quentin tarantino. No solo en el western, pero sus películas **Django Unchained** y **The Hateful Eight** ya iban marcando un rumbo bien definido.
Jacques Audiard retoma un poco esta línea y lo hace con mucha dignidad. El telón de fondo del Lejano Oeste y la conquista del oro es una excusa para meter en resalto la personalidad de ambos hermanos, conflictivas, en un mar de incertezas,
Después de una vida persiguiendo un objetivo que al final ni siquiera saben cuál es verdaderamente, cuál es la verdadera frontera entre el bien y el mal, ambos deciden como en la mítica **Centauros del desierto** ,volver a casa.
Es una comedia oscura donde no hay una parte cómica en si mismo y despoja de ese toque lírico y patriótico a lo que fue la conquista del Lejano Oeste: una lucha descarnada movida solo por la ambición de enriquecerse a cualquier costo.
Algunos lo lograron, la mayoría tuvo que volverse a casa con las manos vacías. Como los Hermanos Sisters.
