The Two Faces of Hive

I was thinking about why Hive is exciting for me, and it’s really about how it works on two levels, and why it's so engaging. For me, one doesn't really work without the other. I read recently about how elements of the HIVE system need to level up with user engagement to hit the 'big time', but there's a balance to be maintained in reality to ensure that the 'family' side of Hive doesn't become diluted?
