I've been producing my own music for a couple of years now.
I began with no knowledge on how to produce anything and
what producing music means in the first place to producing
other artist as well as my own material. I want to share with
you a short story of how my first production attempt came about.

When I started to work under the name ''Bubblegum'', I didn't
think I was ever going to publish any of the actual work.
It was meant to be a one-man recording project, mainly for
my own practice purposes and I didn't consider the prospect
of publishing the work or performing live. However, things have changed.
The idea was to try and record (and produce) a single. One track.
I had some basic knowledge on how recording software (Cubase)
works and I knew how to record something but I didn't know
how to mix it and what mixing was and I didn't have anything
to work with besides the standard options that you get with Cubase.
So I did a lot of googling, searching forums and watching youtube
videos and began to slowly understand what producing music means.
It was trickier than I thought. You were suppose to have a good pair
of headphones and at least some equipment to do a decent job.
I only had small mobile phone headphones and no equipment.
So I bought a small midi-controller, a par of slightly better headphones
and downloaded a bunch of VST plug-ins for mixing music.

(this is my little MIDI keyboard)
I started exploring the endless world of various synth sounds and
got better and better at playing the little keyboard. Eventually,
I came up with a simple keyboard phrase that went on forever.
Then I realized I can also play a beat using my MIDI keys and
manage to play a very simple rhythm while keeping time.
I put some vocals on top of it and ended up with a single.

(this is what recording looks like)
It was time to ''mix it''. Mixing is all about deciding how you
want something to sound, how you arrange different components
in space and what the volume ratio is like. It is also about
trying to make the track sound as clear as possible and to
have all the elements compatible and ''blended'' into a whole.
I did my best and ended up with a listenable track. When I
come back to it today, I hear a lot of things that should have been
done differently, but it was a good job for a beginner.
I also wanted to make a video for the song so I downloaded a
bunch of clips of melting ice bergs in slow motion and pieced them
together because I felt the song had a rather ''cold'', ''airy''
feeling around it. I posted the video on youtube. That was the
first time I published any of my work as a solo artist and it was
all totally DIY. So, here is the result. Please, comment and enjoy!
